Anyone else having an elective csection?

I’ve been told my baby is big - measuring over 8lbs at 36 weeks. Due to a traumatic labour with my first son - failed forceps and then emergency section I’ve chosen to go with a planned c section at 39 weeks.

just wondering if anyone else is having a section in October? Would be good to chat to others going through the same.

Yes! Just waiting for my date but will be 39 weeks which is 13th - 20th October! When does yours fall? This is my first 🥰 elective c section due to a previous spinal operation and also just for my peace of mind as big baby over here too!

Oh so similar to me! I’m booked in on 16th where I’ll be exactly 39 weeks. Do you know when you will be booked in? Do you know what you are having?

Ahhh amazing !!!!! So consultant said i'd get a call to book me in .... no real indication of when 🤣 I guess it feels more like spontaneous labour if they ring like 'fancy coming in tomorrow?' 🤣

no we didn't find you - do you know?xxxx

Not in October but I had ELCS last year due to traumatic first delivery. ELCS was a bloody dream!

Amyjones86 · 27/09/2023 14:06

Haha yes probably! Apparently I get a call the sunday to tell me what time to go in on the Monday. Yes I’m having a boy and I have a 3 year old boy but I didn’t find out with him. I really liked having a surprise.

Thank you so much the couple of people I spoke to have said the same. Did you find that you were up and about a lot quicker and easier?

yep! booked in for the 12th october :) EMCS last time, and opted for c section this time. Baby is measuring on 90th centile now, so it seems like it was a good decision

Hi I know this is slightly off topic but is there a criteria you have to meet to get an elective c section? I’m in my second pregnancy, high risk due to previous losses including a late loss. My first pregnancy was an EMCS as I developed an infection and my son was very distressed. I think I would feel more at ease if I had an elective c section this time but from my experience they seem to really push natural births on you. Good luck with all your pregnancies - it’s almost time 🥰

Oh do update and let us know how you get on! Are you packing anything specific this time around?

Amyjones86 · 27/09/2023 20:09

No there is no criteria and if that is what you want you can ask for it. No one should persuade you either way. They will go through the risks for csection and vaginal birth and you should be able to advocate to say what you want. I hope it goes well 🤞🏼

@Ceebeebee87 I had an emergency c section with my first birth and as part of my 'birth reflections service' after I asked if I could elect to have a c section the second time and whether I would be pushed to go vbac. She said you can choose to have an elective c section and will not be pressured to change your mind. I am now pregnant again and waiting for booking in appt. Hoping that it is that straight forward!

Elttek · 27/09/2023 20:22

I was expecting to be persuaded to have a VBAC too, but honestly nobody has batted an eyelid. I saw the consultant about 30 weeks and they asked how I'd like to give birth this time, I said 'probably a csection' and she said 'ok!' and got the book out and booked me in. In a way I do feel like it hasn't been talked through with me at all, I'm sure a lot will be explained during the pre-op but that isn't until the day before 🙈

Baconbinge · 27/09/2023 20:28

Not October, but I will be having an elective section in November. It's my first pregnancy and I have no medical reasons for one but I am having twins so decided this option was best for me. Hoping it's a nice, calm experience like I have heard from a lot of people.

not sure if this is for me but I'll answer it anyway 😂 I wasn't at all prepared for a c section last time, so this time I've put in big knickers (full briefs but gone colourful and fun, hahah), I wasn't allowed a shower for about 4 days having been in labour for ages before the emcs so I've packed some fresh wipes and some shower gel I can at least have a flannel wash with. Snacks. Sliders rather than flip flops or slippers because of the compression stockings and the ward was hotter than anything. A light zip up hoody instead of a dressing gown (again- hot), couple of pairs of brand new pyjamas as a treat! Just bits to help me feel more human- I was in for quite a few days last time and expect to be this time too.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 28/09/2023 08:45

I had one!

Things I'd wish I'd known-

  • you have to inject yourself for ten days after baby is born.
  • take your stool softeners often as consitpation is awful after c section!
  • on day 2 ish you'll start to fart a lot. This is hilarious BUT if you laugh it hurts so so so much- you need to warn whoever is with you (probably partner) they cannot laugh they have to leave the room if needs be, as if you laugh it feels like stabbing pains and you'll cry it will hurt so much.

Anyone can choose this now for any reason
