19+5 weeks bleeding

Hi all, hoping I can hear some stories from people to help put my mind at ease.

I'm currently 19+5 weeks pregnant, high risk pregnancy due to previous early birth, manual removal of placenta and haemorrhage which required a transfusion, so being monitored through the FMU as well as consultant led. So far this pregnancy has been fine. Sunday I had quite a heavy bleed so visited my early pregnancy unit. They checked my cervix and listened to the babies heartbeat and confirmed all ok but brought me back Monday to do a more detailed scan. Checked my cervix again and measured and all is ok. They did confirm my placenta is low lying and is likely the cause of the bleed. The bleeding has continued although a lot lighter than the first. It's been 4 days post original bleed. Should the bleeding stop completely, or is there a chance it could continue for weeks? I feel so nervous and can't help thinking something bad is happening but if I know to potentially expect it for weeks that will put my mind a bit more at ease.

Hi op, sorry to hear this, it’s so scary isn’t it.

Is it still fresh blood? As in bright red?
or has it it more brownish?

I had quite a heavy bleed, quite a bit earlier than you though, around 14 weeks. And I’ve not stopped bleeding since, but it’s been dark brown ‘old’ blood, so they’re not concerned.

@Weetabixagain so scary! I feel like I can't relax and enjoy because I'm just so tense. It's still red fresh blood and has been for the duration of the bleed. I'm hoping it does start to change soon or stop completely. Thanks for sharing, it helps hearing from others who have experienced similar x

Yes I was exactly the same, it’s impossible to focus on anything else!
it’s a good sign that it’s lighter than it was. Hopefully it settles soon.

When you went to be checked, did they give any indication of when they’d expect the bleeding to calm down? They told me to give it up to two weeks, but my situation sounds different to yours (they couldn’t find what was causing the bleed). And have they whether you need to rest?
You could always give your midwife a call too?
