Mosquito Bites (UK)

Does anyone know if we need to be concerned about mosquito bites in the UK whilst we’re pregnant? Every time I step outside I’m swarmed by them, I’ve got over 10 bites in the last 24 hours all on my legs (which have been covered but apparently they can bite through clothes!). I’ve tried googling but all it brings up is about Zika and nothing relating to the UK - I just wondered if anyone else has had this issue and has already spoken to a midwife/doctor and if I need to be worried?

Sorry I don’t know the answer to your question as I didn’t even realise we get mosquitoes here! But, I do know that the skin so soft spray from Avon is really good at repelling them! I use it every time I go on holiday and haven’t been bitten since using it

Please take this in the lighthearted way it's intended....

@Nellie1209 where are you that you're being swarmed by mosquitoes in late UK September? And @FirstMondayInMay where are you that you didn't realize we had them at all?!

Anyway in answer to the actual question, stick to NHS guidance. If there's nothing listed about bites in pregnancy via NHS then nothing to worry about :)

@Juicyjuicymango manchester, I’ll keep an eye out next summer🤣

Juicyjuicymango · 27/09/2023 13:46

@FirstMondayInMay haha - maybe they just don't venture north of the Watford Gap!

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 27/09/2023 13:48

No. I have been bitten to death during both pregnancies. We don't have zika risk here

@Juicyjuicymango random but I've been bitten four times last week! Couldn't believe it. Thought the season was well over!

@Juicyjuicymango honestly the houses opposite us in our street back onto a fishing pond (Yorkshire) and they’re relentless, you can’t go out the door without being bitten!!😂

@Juicyjuicymango I live in Surrey and in 20 years in the UK, I have never been bitten by a mosquito. As soon as I go back home or to Greece however, they literally eat me alive 😆I didn't realise either that mosquitos existed in the UK!
