Are these symptoms of ectopic pregnancy?!

Im 6 weeks pregnant and concerned it might be ectopic. I’ve been having period type cramps but they’re much more on the right side, where my tubes/ovaries are. They aren’t severe and I’ve had no bleeding but I have had a really upset stomach and UTI type pain when I pee (it’s not a uti I went to the doctor)

Has anyone else had cramping in one side and it’s been ok? Does this sound like an ectopic pregnancy?

I hope this is making sense I’m in a bit of an anxious state!

One-sided cramping in early pregnancy should always be checked out to rule out ectopic as it can very quickly become life-threatening. Bleeding doesn’t usually start until the ectopic is rupturing, at which point things have become very dangerous.

Please, please go to A&E tonight (or the early pregnancy unit if it’s a 24hr one), you need to have a scan urgently to confirm where exactly the baby is, it cannot wait until the morning. Let us know how you get on. Flowers

I’ve called 111 and am expecting a call back from a doctor or nurse. Our early pregnancy unit isn’t 24 hour and if possible I want to avoid sitting in a packed a and e for 14 hrs 🥲

It's very unlikely you'll be waiting that long in a and e lovely. An expected eptioic pregnancy would take priority. Definitely go if you're worried.

I'm sending you positive vibes and praying it's not the case for you.

Everyone is different but if it helps, I had similar one sided cramps at the 5 week mark. Our private early pregnancy scan 2 weeks later confirmed baby was in the uterus, doing it's thing with a little visible heartbeat. While this is the case, still get checked out ASAP.

Hope everything is as it should be and this is just a wierd and wonderful pregnancy cramp xx

I had a ruptured ectopic. I work up with mild pain lower abdo and right groin, had diarrhoea and a vomit, then pain worsened, took paracetamol. Exams like a pin point in my groin. Within the hour I was on all fours in the living room. Heart rate 130, sweating then noticed I had pain in my bum like a knife going in. Went to A&E, suspected ectopic but pain improved with codeine. Waited a while for a scan but was done and abdomen full of blood. Was in theatre an hour later.

your symptoms could be normal but I honestly don’t think it’s worth risking.

bettynutkins · 24/09/2023 20:25

As above, definitely get checked out. But I did have one sided pain at 5.5/6 weeks and it turned out to be nothing, he is 3 years old now!

Sunnyside1990 · 24/09/2023 20:36

Oh my goodness @Mummyme87 that sounds very scary! I’m def not going through anything so extreme. I hope you are doing ok now

im definitely going to get it checked out, still waiting for a call from a doctor though

Have you got any pain or strange sensation in your shoulders? That's also a sign.
I'm sure you'll be fine but definitely get it checked out tonight. All the best x

Justhereforaibu1 · 24/09/2023 20:45

Best of luck OP, hopefully it's nothing but definitely get checked out

Mummyme87 · 24/09/2023 20:53

@Sunnyside1990 yeah all fine after surgery and 24weeks pregnant now. And it’s also normal to get cramping and pain in early pregnancy, particularly one sided where implantation has happened

Sunnyside1990 · 24/09/2023 21:16

@Tenashelflife no weird cramping in my shoulder- only symptoms that could be ectopic pregnancy are the cramping on the right of my abdomen, upset stomach and pain when peeing. Praying it’s all ok and I’m just getting anxious over nothing. I’m gay and getting pregnant in the first place has been so expensive it isn’t very easy for us to try again.

My ectopic started with feeling very spaced out, faint, pale. Quite pointed pain rather than cramps around ovary/fallopian tube right side and shoulder tip pain. No upset stomach and it didn't feel crampy.

As I'm guessing you had ivf are you taking progesterone pessaries? They gave me an upset stomach and cramps quite badly and that pregnancy was fine. She's 16 next month!

MumOfOneAwesomeHuman · 24/09/2023 21:27

Also hope you're ok. Try not to get too worried but do get it checked out just in case. When's your routine scan? If you had fertility treatment you should get an early one at your clinic.

Sunnyside1990 · 24/09/2023 22:09

@MumOfOneAwesomeHuman

we did IUI but I am using the pessaries yes! I spoke to the doctor on the phone they didn’t seem too concerned and said come to the walk in clinic tomorrow morning when it opens so that’s what I’ll do.

our early scan isn’t for 10 days and i don’t want to wait that long, though for tonight it doesn’t seem an acute problem. Obvs if I have any of the symptoms mentioned by others here I will go straight to an and e. Will update you all tomorrow! X

Hey lovely, I had awful pain in my right side of my pelvis/groin at around 5/6 weeks too - was convinced it was ectopic. It wasn’t and I’m now currently 15 weeks with my little IVF baby. Such a worrying time.

GLC789 · 24/09/2023 22:31

Glad you've spoke to Dr OP.

You need some well deserved rest now! Sending all the luck for tomorrow xxx

Peachee · 24/09/2023 22:40

I had an ectopic, the symptoms were bleeding old blood for around a month and shooting pains in my vagina upwards rather than on one side. I think getting it checked out will give you some peace of mind. The first 12 weeks of pregnancy are so daunting. You’ve got this! Xx

Lillybobs86 · 25/09/2023 06:15

I wouldn't wait for the shoulder tip pain that comes on once your tube has already ruptured and your in a life threatening position.
When I had an ectopic I had agonising pain but no bleeding till later on.
I would go to your local EPU or A&E don't wait for 111 they made me wait at home for hours when I wish I had just called an ambulance with the pain I was in as mine was an ectopic but they didn't think so on 111.
Always best to get checked out asap at the hospital and only a scan can rule out.

My next pregnancy after that was successful and not ectopic and I did have a small niggle pain on one side but it was the corpus Lutum so it could be that too but was a slight niggle nothing compared to ectopic pain. Please get checked out x

MumOfOneAwesomeHuman · 25/09/2023 07:01

My bet is the pessaries. I remember it all calmed down as soon as I stopped them (though don’t stop early as they’re doing an important job). An earlier scan will put your mind at rest so hoping you can get one today. Sending you hugs. It’s a difficult stressful time doing fertility treatment and the stress doesn’t end with the BFP but it will ease once you know your baby is safe and in the right place.

Lillybobs86 · 25/09/2023 12:47

I've been using progesterone pessarys for last 16 weeks and I have not had this pain at all from them 😬
Like I said I would get checked out at the hospital and push for a scan to get reassurance x

Sunnyside1990 · 25/09/2023 14:36

Hey everyone,

firstly everything is fine! Went to a walk in early pregnancy unit and within an hour I was having a scan. Baby is is in the right place, measuring 6 weeks 0 days and we saw a heartbeat which was incredible we weren’t expecting that so early. The nurses were also so nice. Printed us a lil pic to take home! Bless the NHS.

secondly, thanks for everyone who told me to go get it checked out, I was dismissing my concerns for weeks and it turned out to be very easy to check that baby is in the right place. I would recommend anyone in a similar position with worries to do something about it.

Turns out cramping on one side can be normal but always worth checking.

have a lovely day every1 xoxo
