My waters?

39+4 today and had a second attempt at a sweep this afternoon. First sweep was a few days ago and was "unsuccessful" as my cervix was closed. Today she said I was about 1cm dilated and tried her best to aggravate my cervix. She actually recommended I went home and had some "rough sex" (her words 😂).

Anyway, followed that advice and then went for a nap. Woke up on the sofa and went for a wee and noticed some yellowish discharge in my underwear and it felt damp. This has not happened before so I wiped it away and cleaned myself up.

Fast forward about 15 minutes and I was sat with my legs up and my husband asked if I had went myself. He noticed that my light grey jogging bottoms had a wet patch in the crotch area. Enough liquid that it had gone through my underwear and joggers.

Went to the loo but my underwear is black - hard to tell much!

Anyway - do you think it's my waters? I've been told to inform labour ward when your waters break so they know the time and, although they won't want you in straight away, they only leave you so long.

I've now stripped off my bottom half and I'm sat on a tea towel to see if it's anything else.

I did smell the liquid and it smelt of nothing (not urine either).

Anyway - what should I do? Waters or not do we think?

TIA & sorry - FTM here with no clue!

I would put a pad in to catch anything else as the midwives will want to look at it and call triage. At this stage if you’ve never weed yourself before and not noticed it’s unlikely to start now x

The only experience i have is getting my waters broke in hospital while being induced and I still cannot believe the sheer amount of liquid. I honestly think they were flowing from me for a good ten mins, when i thought that was it, i stood up and it just kept coming so my guess would be no but i thats the only experience i have, I think i have heard they can trickle do dont take my word for it and good luck x

Get vaccuming.. Sitting around won't get things going!

Sounds like it could be a hind leak of your waters, they might want to swab you to check, they did me and it was extremely faint positive. They tried to get me to agree to stay in for monitoring and induction despite me contracting already and being booked in for home birth. Anyway I went home and progressed well at home, had my baby without interference within 2r4 hours. I’d go to bed and sleep while you can if it was me.

It can start with a trickle and suddenly be a flood. I would call triage so they can check - if your waters have broken they will want to know when as there’s an infection risk.

Thanks all! Spoke to the day assessment unit and I'm just monitoring at home for now. I'm to go in tomorrow afternoon if labour hasn't naturally progressed by then 😊
