Hi all,

I had my scan weds. My dates put me around 7 weeks but the sonographer measured 5-5 and a half weeks. Yolk Sac but no heartbeat and ordered a rescan for 4th October.

My Flo app, predicted me ovulation and edd although I'm not sure on those dates.

Is this fairly common? Any positive stories to share?

Aug 22 I went into sudden labour and lost our baby boy at 20 weeks, after a only finding out I was pregnant a few days before.

I'm so anxious, but want to be so positive.

❤️❤️

So sorry about your previous loss that must have been truly heartbreaking for you 🩷

I don’t have any experience of not seeing the hb but I’m currently about 9 weeks pregnant with my 2nd and I’ve had 3 scans up to now due to bleeding.
First scan I measured 6 weeks 6 days.
2nd scan a full week later measuring 7 weeks 1 day. So I was totally convinced there was something wrong as there was only like 2 days worth of growth in a full week.
3rd scan a full week later than 2nd scan and was measuring 8 weeks 3 days so baby had grown what it should have in that time plus an extra 2 days.
I’m still bleeding but hoping everything is going ok in there with baby.

From all the googling I’ve done and I’ve done a lot, a lot of women have said they’ve gone for a scan and it doesn’t add up with their dates, there’s no hb seen, then they’ve gone back a week later and everything has been absolutely fine. If you don’t know for certain when you ovulated, haven’t been tracking using OPK’s etc. then your dates could almost definitely be wrong and you’ve just ovulated later than expected. When did you get your first positive test?

Hopefully my reply might bump this for you and someone with more experience on this will come and answer this for you. Wishing you a positive outcome xx

This happened to me! I was scanned at what I thought was 7 weeks but only measured at 5 weeks with just a sac visible. I went back 2 weeks later and saw the heartbeat but still measured 2 weeks behind. He’d caught up slightly by the 12 week scan and was only about 8 days behind

im 28 weeks now with no problems😊

I was using Flo too, so thought I’d missed my period when I tested but going off the dates on my scans I must have only been 10/11 days past ovulation

Scans are notoriously inaccurate in the early weeks, so don't lose hope.
I'm extremely sorry to hear about your baby boy.

I hope things go well for you in this pregnancy.

I am so sorry for your loss that must have been a really difficult time for you. I lost a baby at 13 weeks in March and I’m now pregnant again with our rainbow baby so I understand the worry that comes with a pregnancy after loss.

I had my first scan at 7 weeks and was told that everything looked consistent with 5 weeks - no heartbeat just a yolk sac. It didn’t really make sense to me at the time and I was convinced we were going to have another miscarriage. We were told to come back 2 weeks later and within that time I had a huge bleed so was even more convinced everything was going wrong again. We had a scan again and they found a heartbeat and a baby measuring at 7w2d. 2 weeks later had a 9 week scan and everything looked good. About to have my 12 week scan this week praying all is still ok.

I hope the same happens for you, it’s really common. Also after a late loss I think cycles are messed up for a while. Wishing you all the best for this pregnancy. Keep us updated!

I had a miracle pregnancy between IVF rounds and had an early scan where there was a fetal pole but no heartbeat. The clinic said it might just be too early (we were somewhere between 6 and 7 weeks) and had me come back a week later. The fetal pole is now a strapping 8 year old!

It’s a hard wait but there is hope. Wishing you the very best of luck.

Oh Wow! Thanks so much for your reply Katie. That's interesting and very reassuring to know.

My first positive was the 29th August. Clear blue digital 1-2 weeks and then 5th Sept said 2-3 weeks.

💞 hoping everything goes well for you xx

Thanks so much for your reply!! 💞 and sorry for your loss. It's only just a year since the funeral so it's been a very emotional time as it is.

Thanks for the reassurance, this really gives me hope. It's going to feel like a very long week and a half. I know I just need to relax and be kind to myself!

I really hope your 12 week scan goes well this week. And thanks for sharing your personal journey!

Sending you positive vibes, keep me updated please if you don't mind!

❤️ xx

This happened to me. Sonographer thought I was later on than I was and told me there was no hope and to expect a miscarriage in the next few days. She had to rescan me in a week as that was the hospital policy. At the rescan there was a heartbeat. My 'no hope' baby is now ten years old!

beachstones · 24/09/2023 16:55

Just to add, sonographer thought I was seven weeks and I was only five weeks.

No personal experience as my baby’s heartbeat was seen at 6+4 (first scan I had).

My gynaecologist who scanned me at my IVF clinic said that at the beginning, measurements can be off by 1 week either side and be normal - she said this after I asked why some of our measurements showed 5+3 and some showed 6+4, at the same scan. As we did IVF we knew exactly how far along I should be.

ShootingStarExpresso · 24/09/2023 18:10

I do natural family planning and this happened to me but we knew it was fine because I ovulate around day 22 of my cycles not the typical day 14.
