Hi everyone

I can't seem to find any posts where someone has been in my situation. I'm sure the exist, i'm just new to this app 😂

I am 8.5 weeks pregnant. For the last 3 days, i have had either spotting or sporadic light bleeds. These can be either brown or red. Never enough to fill a pad but the bleeds are more than spotting. I don't have any pain or cramping and i've had a previous miscarriage which felt completely different.

I have a private reassurance scan last night and baby looked great with a strong heartbeat. It measured correctly and my cervix was also checked and ok.

The advice i got was just to monitor and check it didn't progress to anything heavier but really i just wanted to know if this was common and if there are any reasons for it? I've read about hormonal changes causing bleeding or even a placental attachment bleed.

It's just taking away the happiness we felt when we saw the baby for the first time and i wish it would stop already 😞

Thanks in advance

Hey,

hope you are okay I know it can be very stressful. I had a very similar situation in which I bled for 2 weeks from 8weeks to 10weeks (red heavy spotting, small red clots, brown spotting , large brown clots) scans showed baby was baby fine. Was told it was a threatened miscarriage. Had a follow up scan and baby was still fine, was given Cyclogest (to support the pregnancy) they were hell but I am 17 weeks pregnant now and the bleeding stopped the day after beginning cyclogest.

I did read somewhere that between maybe 7-9 weeks a hormonal change occurs which can result in bleed. I was given the cyclogest due to previous miscarriage also. From what I researched, bleeding can be super common. I never had pain either!

hope this is reassuring and all continues to look good for you xx

Thank goodness baby is OK OP. I know this might not help you right now when you're in the middle of this but it's reassuring to remember how much stretching, rearranging, growing and movement is going on! I think we all forget how much the body goes through in pregnancy!
Blood, at any stage though is always a worry but I'm glad baby and you are OK.

hotcandle · 24/09/2023 00:03

Also bleeding is very very common, but as long as it doesn't develop into something heavier you should be completely fine. Be reassured you're pregnancy sounds normal and healthy x

Thank you so much for your kind and reassuring response. I think the lady i spoke to at the hospital worried me a bit but the actual EPU weren't open at weekends and it was just a ward nurse. Maybe not so confident to reassure me. Thanks again x

Currently going through the same thing 😩 I’ve had 3 scans already due to these bleeds and I’m only 9 weeks 1 day. Last scan at 8 weeks 3 days they said baby was absolutely fine and there wasn’t any cause for bleeding on the scan. I did have my cervix checked though and they’ve said I’ve got a cervical ectropion which can cause the bleeds but I still can’t help but worry something has gone wrong since my last scan x

I'm so sorry, it's so disheartening isn't it. I had my cervix checked on a scan but i guess they found yours on an internal exam? If it helps, all my research has made me see this is very common! Try not to worry, i've seen lots of these stories result in healthy babies xx

Hi @Lithgow2000
I had the heaviest bleed ever at 8 weeks, all was ok. Glad to hear you heard baby's heartbeat, amazing moment xx

HelloHello183 · 24/09/2023 16:21

Hello, I hope your ok, I understand how scary it is.
Last october i had bleeds at 8+4 and then again at 10 weeks, I had scans both times and they said that there was blood + fluid around baby which i am guessing was likely the cause of the bleeds (but they did not specify this to me) All ended up n being ok and he was born in May, just a quick question OP, Do you have a early pregnancy unit around where you are from, as you can ring them, explain you are bleeding and they should hopefully get you a scan if you are still worried and the bleeding has not stopped. I am so happy to hear that baby was ok at your last scan, wishing you the best in your pregnancy hope everything goes well xxFlowersFlowers

Thanks for your response! Yeah i have an EPU but they bascially just said it's not uncommon and to monitor it. It's just not really giving me any possible answers which is kind of hard :( xx

Yes @Lithgow2000 an internal exam like with the speculum, I didn’t realise they could check the cervix on a scan! Mine have all been abdominal though not internal so that might be why.
Yeah I have a 2 year old toddler that is proof bleeding in pregnancy doesn’t always mean the worst because I was the same with her but seem to be bleeding more with this one! Still a worry every time you see it though. Can’t wait to make it to my 12 week scan and then I think I might relax a little bit x

Thank you. The bleeding is very very light and the majority of the time is just spotting. I'm just not quite sure how long i'm supposed to wait for it to stop and what is normal. I saw online that if you've seen a heartbeat after 8 weeks then there is a 95% chance the pregnancy will continue as long as the bleeding stops but it doesn't say how long. The EPU told me it was not uncommon at all, i'm sure we'll both be absolutely fine. At least you know the reason for yours and i've seen alot of women say they had the same thing xx

Hi sorry to just join in. I'm new to this. I'm just looking for some advice..I am currently 6 weeks 3 days. I have a scan booked for Thursday. I had a bleed on Thursday 21st more than spotting but definitely less than my usual period. Bleeding has stopped now, Thursday was the day where there was most blood Friday Saturday it was just very light when I wiped. I'm trying not to worry. I have never had a misscarage. I have had 1 previous pregnancy. Not really sufferd with morning sickness but did have tender breasts which I no longer have. Can anyone give me some advice. Thanks

Mangotango39 · 25/09/2023 11:27

I bled for implantation and well, it's been off and on ever since, every colour of the rainbow (not literally haha) I'm 20 weeks this week and have had extra scans - always been fine and no cause known.

It's slowed down in the last 2 weeks but still spotted a little. Generally before I spotted 2/3 times a week and with 2 occasions of quite heavy .

Trust me I know how worried you must feel but like others said there's loads going on inside and we just must be slightly more sensitive x

Thank you so much! The EPU called me back today and they think it sounds like a hematoma from implantation and they said it's not unusual. I've to give it another week and if it doesn't stop I should go for another scan. Hoping it settles down. Thanks again for your help and reassuring words xx

If there's one thing i've learned through speaking to other people and the EPU it's that bleediny is certainly not uncommon. It's also a good sign if it doesn't steadily get heavier and you have no severe cramps. I actually have had a miscarriage and it's very painful and heavy. That's why i'm a bit more reassured that's not what I'm experiencing. The reassurance scan is the best thing xx

Thank you for reply. I'm just hoping everything is ok. I'm worrying aswell that I have symptoms. I feel tired but that's about it. Did have sore and tender breasts but this has gone since bleeding.
Thursday seems forever away x

Try not to worry too much. I know that's much easier daid than done. I've had several instances of 3-4 days where my symptoms disappear. Again, i think that's normal but it's easy to read into things when you're worried. Please do let me know if you need any support xx

Yeah I spoke to a midwife today I had a bleed again but was just small and haven't had anything since. I did a clearblue test and it said pregnant. So I'm just going to wait until Thursday to know more. Thank you very much and I do hope everything is okay with you xx
