I'm curious to know the gender of the baby. This is our second baby and we are happy to get baby girl. But we are not sure of the scan image.

It's sex not gender 🙄

EmmaGrundyForPM · 23/09/2023 03:41

Your baby doesn't have a gender. It has a sex. And I can't tell its sex from that scan, sorry.

SorryWorry · 23/09/2023 03:42

Why does the sex of your baby matter? Would you not be happy if it was a boy?

Vidhurk · 23/09/2023 03:56

We will be happy even if it's a boy. Our expectation is a girl. Our first baby is boy.

Ok what's the sex of the baby..

Vidhurk · 23/09/2023 03:58

Ok it's a sex. It looks like boy at times but still confused.

There are Facebook groups with people who are really good at this kind of thing.
Have a quick look there, I'd say girl because I can't see any signs of penis but I might be completely wrong on that.

Congratulations on your baby!

Oh god! Bore off with your it's sex not gender. Literally like do you seek out these posts so you can comment that. Get a life!

DeadButDelicious · 23/09/2023 06:21

In my completely uneducated opinion (I had a metric tonne of scans when I was pregnant, so saw DD from every conceivable angle while she was cooking away, 😂) I reckon it's a girl OP. But I could be entirely wrong!

Congratulations!

I think this is true. Every post from an excited parent asking for the gender/sex gets the same list of reply's.

Congratulations OP. FWIW I think girl!

YouveGotAFastCar · 23/09/2023 07:17

I'd lean girl BUT with the heavy caveat that it looks like this was a scan to look at the baby's spine/organs and so the front of the scan is quite out of focus, and that can make a big difference.

Athrawes · 23/09/2023 07:17

No, we won't "bore off" because sex vs gender is actually really important.
I think it's a boy by the way.

Dogon · 23/09/2023 07:22

Important to you. Most (normal) people aren't bothered by someone making the mistake when they are just excited to find out what the sex of their baby is.

spidermonkeys · 23/09/2023 07:24

It's actually not at all important to me, nor anyone I actually know in real life.

In fairness to the posters who do this, language matters. If we, as women, accept the obliteration of words and meanings, we are contributing to our own demise. Try looking for the word “woman” in any piece of NHS literature. It’s very hard to find, even in documents about pregnancy, birth and menopause, which you would think would be 100% aimed at women. Gender is a social construct, and it’s important that we hold on to that. Women are born, not made.

OP - huge congratulations. Wishing you and your family health and happiness on this amazing journey.

BubziOwl · 23/09/2023 07:30

The only other people I've known push this sex vs gender thing are people on the total opposite end of the gender ideology spectrum as I assume these posters are.

In the real world, people have been using sex and gender interchangeably for far longer than the idea that they are two distinct concepts, and that usage is regarded as perfectly correct. To push this distinction as if it's absolute fact just makes you look daft. Especially on a post of a pregnant mother talking about her baby.

Louise20231 · 23/09/2023 09:18

Hiya, my girls scan looked similar to this and I was confused but she’s definitely a girl!

PickledScrump · 23/09/2023 09:51

Looks like my girl

Ttcmumma · 23/09/2023 11:57

Easy mistake when all scan centres allow you to book a 'gender scan' not personally seen any named a sex scan.

I think it's a girl op but only had a boy so far so not overly experienced! x

Athrawes · 27/09/2023 05:28

No they haven't. I recall my mother, around 1976, crossing out the word gender and replacing it with sex, on a form for me at school. Because she was an intelligent woman who knew it mattered then. It matters now.

TerfTalking · 27/09/2023 05:54

Agree, Sex matters.

sorry no idea what it is though, congratulations.
