Membrane sweep and induction

Hi, at our last growth scan 10 days ago, we found out that the baby isn't growing as expected so have been referred to the growth specialist next week. I'm due to be induced in 2 weeks (I'll be 39 weeks) due to severe spd. On my induction paperwork is says that I'll have a membrane sweep at 38 weeks.

I saw my midwife 2 days ago and asked if they do it or if its done at the hospital and she said that they don't really work and only speed up labour by a day and that having an induction with the balloon (that's the option that the consultant recommended) doesn't really do anything except open the cervix enough to break my waters and that I'd need to be put on the drip.

Has anyone had any positive experiences with having a membrane sweep and being induced with a balloon?

I had a membrane sweep this Tuesday at 40 weeks and although I’m not in labour I’ve lost so much of the mucus plug and had a bloody show. Since then I have been having contractions (inconsistent) so I agree I feel like it’s sped things up but not put me directly into labour. But I am still really glad I had it as before that I felt like I was at a standstill.
