Anyone here in a similar position? I'm feeling a bit of an odd one out on forums now where I don't feel pregnant pregnant and I don't feel infertile infertile, and thought I'd see if others were in the same, tentative situation. I don't feel like I'm ready to join the main May 2024 gang until I'm more confident this will continue.

I'm only 4 weeks 5 days :/

@KG1244 yeah, we booked it in after the 6.5 scan. It’s not cheap at £200, it’s with my fertility clinic, but at least it will tell me if all is ok or not. My 12 week scan is November 18th.

@ASGIRC It's normally the same here in September. There are usually news articles about it but nada this year.

KG1244 · 20/10/2023 10:50

@thislittlebird i think if it gives you some reassurance, it’s worth it ❤️ Also good that’s it’s with your clinic. Mine don’t offer scans beyond the 7 week viability.

ASGIRC · 20/10/2023 10:51

@TheBirdintheCave just had a look and my girl name is actually 7th!!! Didnt expect it to be THAT common. but my 2nd and 3rd picks are 3rd and 8th LOL Sad times!

However, my name was really uncommon when I was a kid and I hated that no one else was called that, so maybe a more common name wont be too bad!

thislittlebird · 20/10/2023 10:54

@TheBirdintheCave Gilbert is cute, makes me think of Anne of Green Gables. is your strategy to scour the rare ones and pick there or just happen upon them and then check the ranking? Conrad is what my husband gets called by our neighbours who can’t work out what his name is when I send Christmas cards lol. It’s a very old name. Our boy top name is DH’s grandad’s name and we heard his mum say it the other day (which she rarely does, he died a long time ago) and it was a little weird, hopefully they’ll be ok if we choose to use it.

@ASGIRC wish it was us! It’s usually September but they’ve just decided not to bother this year, it seems :/

My girl choices are 20s and 30s I think, I have two I’ve loved forever and can see me ending up with one of those. The other girl choice is I like went from 3000th!!!!! odd to 200 and something. Super annoying how these trends are work lol

I liked this site’s work with the data: https://names.darkgreener.com/

Mine said they’re licensed to do scans until 10 weeks, hence why she said go for 9.5 weeks so it’s as near to your 12 week as you can get with them.

That was supposed to be in reply to @KG1244

@TheBirdintheCave omg I do not like the answer I received!

I guess I can stop checking daily 🫠

@thislittlebird that sounds sensible. Let’s hope the next few days fly for us both and we can get scanned!

TheBirdintheCave · 20/10/2023 11:06

@thislittlebird Yes, we get the Anne of Green Gables reference a lot 😂 A good namesake though so we don't mind it :)

I like my names to be outside the top 500 so there are lots we've ruled out completely as they seem to be rising quickly in the charts. But yes, as you said, sometimes trends take you by surprise or there's a character with an obscure name that suddenly becomes very popular (a la Otis from Sex Education). Our top girl name, Hero, is in the 3000s at the moment I think.

Honour names are so lovely, I'm sure your MIL would be so pleased you're using it :) My mum started happy crying when I said we were using granddad's name as G's middle name. Couldn't not though as he was born one day shy of what would have been granddad's 100th birthday 😅

TheBirdintheCave · 20/10/2023 11:07

@thislittlebird Mid December! :O Oh my. That's not on at all.

KG1244 · 20/10/2023 11:11

Oh no. I wanted to start knuckling down with name research next month! I love that name @TheBirdintheCave

All being well (❤️) I think I would quite like to know the gender before I start thinking about names so I can focus more. I also have quite a few girl names in mind but no boys names 😬

thislittlebird · 20/10/2023 11:34

A release almost a year behind the actual data is very annoying! I wonder why they’re so resource shy this year.

My favourite girl name is a classic, nothing rare, it just pootles along throughout history. My worry is it’s quite popular on mumsnet lately and I’m going to be irked if it’s suddenly back in the top 10. I’ve always liked it so I might use it whatever happens, injust would rather not have multiples at school and stuff. My name is also a classic and it worked well for me, I was the only one with my name in my school year, so I’m ok with that. Middle names might be rarer because they’ll be Cornish, but we have yet to agree they’ll definitely be middle names yet lol. They’re almost always very low down the rankings. Maybe December is good timing, if all goes well I’ll be 16 weeks around the time it comes out.

@TheBirdintheCave yeah Otis is a good example, I think Daphne is another one that’s jumped up (and one on my list) because of Bridgerton, but I’ve never seen Bridgerton so I had no idea.

OP posts:
thislittlebird · 20/10/2023 11:36

@KG1244 i was like that. A long list of girl names with a couple of favourites and no boy names. Now I have a boy name I’m super into and I’m going to be sad that I won’t get to use one or the other of my top names, since this is likely our one and only chance at this. I quite like getting to think about both though, might be disappointed to lose some options when find out.

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 20/10/2023 11:46

@thislittlebird Ooh Cornish names :D My husband is half Cornish so we considered a couple but they don't go with Gilbert at all 😂

thislittlebird · 20/10/2023 12:05

@TheBirdintheCave yeah dh is fully Cornish and they’re a bit difficult to work with! I like his name, but it’s still surprisingly rare today despite being a known name. The girl names are nice but not my cup of tea sound wise mostly, and his family uses a lot of them already. I’ve found a couple they haven’t used that would make nice middle names. For boy names there’s a few I like but not convinced we’ll go with first names because they’ll be quite unusual to most people and I don’t really want to make life hard or invite stupid comments. So are thinking maybe his more generally Celtic grandad’s name + a Cornish middle name. There’s a couple that could work.

I got my consultant appointment through today. Did anyone else here go through the consultant referral process?

My appointment is May 8th! I’m due May 26th! Don’t feel like that leaves me much time to make a decision on birth choices, what on earth am I supposed to do? The whole point of seeing a consultant is surely to discuss risks in good time and organise an elective if you want one?

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 20/10/2023 12:41

@thislittlebird Wow. I thought if you went down the consultant route you had extra appointments and scans etc. So there's just the one appointment? 🤔

thislittlebird · 20/10/2023 12:45

@TheBirdintheCave I’m really disappointed. Wondering if I should ring the midwife team and ask if I can be referred elsewhere? Doesn’t seem right that I have to just wait for a cancellation, not like I have choice in the timing! I could easily have an issue before May 8th!

They did say I’ll have extra tests but didn’t mention extra scans. I’ve got a list of the scans in my book given to me by the midwife.

OP posts:
Misty84 · 20/10/2023 13:33

@thislittlebird Im I’m shock that your private scan is costing £200! Mine is £60!

thislittlebird · 20/10/2023 13:35

@Misty84 it’s because it’s with my clinic 🙃

I only realised it was a lot when I saw people post prices on here. I’ll do it on this occasion because I’ve already booked it with the same woman as before, but I won’t pay that again!

OP posts:
thislittlebird · 20/10/2023 13:38

Apparently 36 weeks with a consultant is quite normal unless you have additional risks. Can’t really get my head around having to debate whether I’m having an elective c section a couple of weeks before I’ll have one. Doesn’t seem right, and yet it is what they do.

After everything we’ve gone through, the idea of emergency c section after induction is a lot to get my head around, so I really wanted to discuss an elective in good time so I knew what I was doing. I assumed that would be earlier in new year.

OP posts:
thislittlebird · 20/10/2023 17:42

Ok so I spoke to the midwives. They said 36 weeks is not for the c section chat, it's to review the 36 week scan and see when you need to have your baby. They said I can request to be referred to the birth options team at 16 weeks, so that's a relief.

OP posts:
ASGIRC · 20/10/2023 18:09

@thislittlebird That sounds a lot more reasonable! And its good that it is already booked with the consultant, this far in advance!

I had my gender scan today and Im have a (very shy) little girl!!!!!!!! Which is what I wanted!

thislittlebird · 20/10/2023 18:16

@ASGIRC oh wow, that's great news, pleased you got the gender you were hoping for! She didn't want to be seen?

Yeah, much more reasonable. Now I understand why they scheduled that one so early, but they didn't explain so I was panicked. I kind of hate saying to midwives I might want a c-section because they literally avoid talking about it unless you ask. They're very keen to talk about induction though, which I do not like the idea of!
