Second hcg blood test

I'm 6w4d.. My first HCG blood test on 19th sept was 5325 had a second taken today (21st) it is 8640. Is this ok even though it hasn’t doubled? Little worried that it’s rising slowly

Hi, from everything I read HCG starts to slow down and doesn't double every 2 days but every 4 days after 6 weeks but I'm not sure how correct that is. My last draw was at 6 weeks and was at 6000 so very similar to yours.

Google says:
"During the first four to six weeks of pregnancy, hCG levels double every two days. After that, it may take three to four days to double until the sixth week. HCG then tends to peak around week ten, before leveling off and remaining constant for the remainder of the pregnancy."

So if you have the same rate of increase over the next 48 hours it would have doubled in 3-4 days :)

Hi, I had very similar to this. My IVF clinic tested me as I was bleeding and too early to scan to see if it was a loss or not. I can’t remember my exact numbers but test one was 5000ish then second test was 8000ish. I was so upset at the call saying 8000 as it hadn’t doubled but nurse said sometimes it doesn’t in 48hrs as slows down from the initial surges, but equally not doubling could sometimes be a bad sign! 😫 The limbo waiting was awful. I had a third test and it was 14000 ish. Scan following week showed all OK and I’m now 26+2.

As you’re now 6 weeks it could well be just the natural slow down and test 3 hopefully will show a double or more from your first test. Good luck! ❤️

@Megan993 how have you got on lovely? I’m in a similar position now at 6+1.
my hcg at 5+5 was 15,293 had it repeat 48hours later at 6 weeks and it’s gone up to 23,731 so only a 52% rise in 48 hours. Feeling so worried, been trying for 5 years, 2 rounds of ivf and 1 miscarriage and we have suddenly fallen naturally. Desperately holding on to hope x

Hey lovely! I was so worried after my second one cause it hasn't doubled and my numbers was on the lower end anyway. Your numbers look amazing! I was told once they are high enough they don't double they slowly rise over 4 days so I think yours are pretty good! I had a scan today and I'm currently 7w3d. Still so nervous though I think after losses we never really sit and enjoy how we should which is sad but it sounds so good on your end! Keep me updated. Do you have any scans or anything booked x

yes we have an early scan on Sunday so I should be 6+3 - I was happy with my numbers initially in the first week they more than doubled but now these last two haven’t doubled , so nervous because we got to 8 weeks with our first ivf pregnancy and then had a missed miscarriage, never expected to go through all of this after 5 years trying and then now face miscarriages it’s just taken the whole enjoyment out of everything, petrified of the bad outcome :(

I think your numbers look fine honestly, I know I even had a little cry when I received mine because I thought they was so low and all the ladies online their numbers were over 20,000 and I thought I'm not even close but everyone's pregnancy is different xx
