does Anyone have any experience of being scanned at 6 weeks? Was it an internal scan? Just preparing myself for what to expect.

I was scanned at 7 weeks and it was internal. It will be internal for sure at 6 weeks

Newandtrying · 20/09/2023 21:59

thank you for replying, where you able to see a heartbeat?

Hey OP, midwife here. It will definitely be an internal scan. It's generally slightly uncomfortable, like a pressure, pushing sensation as they have a look around. It shouldn't be painful though. Depending on how many days over 6 weeks you are, you should be able to see a heartbeat, though they may ask you to return at a later date if your dates are slightly out.

Newandtrying · 20/09/2023 22:05

Thank you for replying. going by ovulation i think il be around 6 weeks 3 days. Im prepared for it to be uncomfortable, a small price to pay to find out if the pregnancy is in the right place and viable.

Yes saw the heartbeat, was magical 💕💙

Hey OP, mine was internal at 6 weeks 6 days. Don't do what I did and drink pints and pints of water before your appointment. I felt as though I would going to burst and definitely took the 'full bladder' too far. A couple of glasses is fine.

I unfortunately got bad news at my appointment but the technician couldn't have been kinder.

It's a very exciting time!! Good luck.

Newandtrying · 20/09/2023 22:23

@hotcandle thank you ♥️ and for the advice I was planning on filling up on water so I won’t now! I’m sorry to hear it didn’t go as planned for you.

When are you having the scan @Newandtrying? Wishing you lots of luck. For my internal scan, they asked for an empty bladder (full bladder on abdominal scans)

AmyRB · 20/09/2023 22:28

Hi! I was scanned at 6 weeks which was a internal scan Smile xx

Newandtrying · 20/09/2023 22:31

@wtawtaw im going on the 30th of this month, still over a week to go im just trying to prepare myself. I wasn’t sure what to go with because I didn’t know wether it would be internal but im guessing from the comments here it’s much more likely it will be

OP posts:
Newandtrying · 20/09/2023 22:31

@AmyRB thank you, from the comments here it seems like that’s what I should be expecting too Xx

@Newandtrying I was such a crying emotional mess when I went for my first scan, I was absolutely terrified of bad news and could not control myself! Let us know how you get on 💛 not too long to wait!

bunnypenny · 20/09/2023 22:44

Just to counter what everyone here has said, I’ve had a 6wk scan three times (with each of my children) and every time it was external. Every time they found what they were looking for.good luck!

Newandtrying · 20/09/2023 22:45

@wtawtaw i will be exactly the same, I’m already so emotional when it comes to the day il have to hold myself together. Il be sure to update.
@AmyRB aw that really is tiny. How far along are you now if you don’t mind me asking? Xx

Newandtrying · 20/09/2023 22:46

@bunnypenny I’m prepared for either outcome now 🤣 I just want it to hurry up and happen. Thank you 🙂

I had a private scan at six weeks and the sonographer said she would try to do it externally, and if that didn't work then she try internally (and let me have a wee first!).

She managed to do it externally luckily.

Ttcmumma · 21/09/2023 07:37

My 6 week scan they done both for me. We actually saw baby and heartbeat with abdominal scan but then she used transvaginal to get measurements as it's clearer. I mention this as I was advised to drink a fair bit before going in, they done abdominal and then asked me to empty my bladder for the transvaginal x

Hi just after some opinions. I went for a viability scan today and I was measuring 6 weeks 3 days. Yolk was there but no embryo. Told to return in 2 weeks should I.prepare for worst or is this normal?

This happens a lot as it’s too early.

Rainbow20234 · 15/05/2024 21:30

@Amz04 heyy! I had a private scan this time round at 6weeks and could only see a tiny little bubble on the screen. I think it's very normal ❤️. I'm now almost 21 weeks. I wouldn't worry. It's crazy what 2 weeks difference can make. My first little girls 8week scan you could see much more xx
