Hi, does anyone know what PAPP A result means?
My results were PAPP A: 1.59 MoM, but theres no explanation whether or not this is a good result...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

No idea but mine was 0.82 which I was told was good...?

TTCbaby2023 · 18/09/2023 23:40

@LinZEd89 @TTCJJB both results 1.5 mom and 0.8 are good indeed. Anything under 0.5 is considered low but doesn't necessarily mean bad news either.

Do you have an appointment booked with your obstetrician and/or midwife? They can talk through all your results with you.
it can’t be analysed in isolation, they’ll compare with your other results. But from what I understand that’s nice and high - but needs a professional medical opinion

Your MoM score basically compares your level with other people who are similar to you (in terms of their age, weight, gestational age etc) with 1 being completely average, anything less than 1 being less than average, and anything over 1 being more then average.

So a result of 1.59 is 59% higher than average. Better a bit higher than a bit lower, this is a good result and nothing to worry about.

Have you been able to speak with a consultant at your hospital? Depending on your number and other factors they can hopefully explain what it means. My baby had slightly low Papp-A but went to term and born 8lbs!

Try not to worry. A low PAPP-A number by itself is rarely anything to worry about, they’ll talk you through all the other factors they consider. Definitely avoid Google / mumsnet on the topic, as it’s quite a complex measurement. From my experience with my own and talking to a doctor it’s quite a misunderstood measurement at times. Best of luck, I’m sure all will be fine xx

Mine was also low - was worried at the time (especially as scans showed baby's growth slowing during the last few weeks) but they reassured me that the vast majority of low papp a pregnancies have no issues. I was monitored more closely because of it, and baby was born healthy at 39 weeks.
