Abnormal Doppler Scan

I’ve been for a Doppler scan this morning (22+2) and been told my results are abnormal and therefore I’ll have scans from 28 weeks as I’m at risk of pre eclampsia and IUGR.

I’ve asked my midwife for the readings as they’ve not published them on Badger Notes, (only that baby is transverse) but I recall the left being 1.79 I think.

Has anyone had this in their previous pregnancies and all been fine? I’ve read both sides of the coin where sometimes it’s super early delivery, induction at 37w and normal delivery being overdue.

My last baby was 38+3 and was spontaneous due to high BP

Bump. Anyone?

Which aspect of the doppler was abnormal? Do you mean the pressure in the cord, or is it something else? I had vasa previa detected by doppler, did have IUGR in the end. Baby delivered early and small but it hasn’t held him back much. It’s worrying to know about a potential problem, but it’s way better than not knowing, though not knowing would feel better right now.

Following and bumping as I'm similar - left artery was 1.46.

I had an abnormal doppler reading at the 12w scan with DD1. I remember i was put on asprin to prevent pre eclampsia and booked extra scans. DD dropped down the centiles at all the scans and by 36w was under 10th centile so induction was planned for 39w. I actually went into spontaneous labour at 38w when my BP suddenly went very high. DD was 2.6kg when born so she is classed as SGA / suspected IUGR and lost a lot of weight after birth. At one point she was 0.4th centile but she is nearly 2.5yrs now and 75th for both height and weight so has clearly caught up to where she is meant to be. She is absolutely thriving and like pp, it doesnt seem to have held her back.

It was a uterine artery Doppler scan today. Ill have another scan at 28w.

@ReadRum and @CrispAppleStrudels glad to hear your babies are doing well now.

I’d rather be prepared and know what to potentially expect. I’m frustrated as the sonographer told me my results would be on the app, so I didn’t acknowledge the actual readings. They put I’ve had a Doppler scan and what lie baby is in but not the readings.

So I’ve got my results from the Doppler scan:
Results that are documented are:
Uad right PI = 1.90
Uad left PI = 1.73
MEAN uterine PI= 1.81, above 97th centile

Thought I would update in case anyone has the same thing. Had a 25 week consultant appointment and the following plan in place:

There’s a 50% chance of growth restriction which would be the main concern as baby might need to come out but might not depending on growth curve. Goal is 37 weeks although local hospital can deal with 28 weekers onwards.
High BP leading to pre eclampsia could be helped with tablets so less of a worry as having fortnightly checks.
Everything will be closely monitored and I’ll have growth scans at 28, 32, 36 and 39 weeks. I will see someone after each growth scan so plans can be updated if needs be.

So really a see how things go over the next couple of growth scans kind of situation.

@Redpanda21
How did things work out for you?

Redpanda21 · 15/12/2023 12:11

@Everystep going okay so far, growth scans have been in good ranges.

Just about to turn 35 weeks. Have a growth scan next week at 36 weeks so hopefully still growing okay.

BP has been going up but not at hypertensive levels yet.
