Sex while pregnant and discomfort

Hello all, this is going to be a mild TMI thread, apologies in advance.
I'm 14+5, this morning hubby and I had intercourse (2nd time since finding out we're pregnant) and after that I've been experiencing some mild uncomfortable sensations (don't know how else to describe them) in my vagina or on the cervix (not exactly sure). They only last a second or so, have been really random, not regular or anything. Also no spotting or bleeding and no cramps at all. Gave my assessment unit a call and they dismissed me with a "take paracetamol for the pain", which I don't think I'll do as it's not painful.

Anyone else experienced anything like this? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Could you have BV/thrush? Mine flares badly in pregnancy and is exacerbated by having sex.

Also the symptoms feel slightly different when I'm pg so it's hard to tell initially

No idea to be honest, I don't have any other symptoms, even CM is normal and what I've been having since the beginning..

Sorry for tmi but was it quite vigorous? The extra blood flow to the area when you're pg might just make your vaginal walls more susceptible to abrasion (not sure if that's the exact word I want).

If that's the case then I reckon it'll heal up in 12h or so.

If it's bv/thrush then it might not get better on its own without otc remedies. Does it hurt when you wee?

You won't hurt the baby either way anyway so please don't worry about that.

It wasn't because I was too scared of it so was actually quite tense (it was my idea too, poor husband hasn't even dared to ask), so maybe it was that? Me being very tense and "tight" so to speak? Sure it's put me off sex for the rest of the pregnancy I reckon.
Thanks for your advice, I really appreciate this community 💛

Oh don't let it put you off if you would like to do it (but obvs not if it's making you tense and uncomfortable). Give it 12h before you worry, I think it's most probably the tiny tears of the vaginal wall, like you get when you go vigorous, only you're a bit more delicate there from the extra blood flow. The fact that the MAU were quite relaxed about it is a good sign.

You can always go for eg oral instead or extra lube etc to reduce the chance of the tiny tears next time.

But if you're still feeling pain tomorrow I'd go for a swab just in case it's an infection. Hopefully not

Thanks, it already seems to have settled but I'll keep an eye out 😊

Thank goodness, good to hear that

I wasn't able to have sex from about 20 weeks onwards in either of my pregnancies, it was so sensitive and felt painful. No idea why and it was fine once we resumed things after birth (many months later both times...). We've just accepted that happens to me in pregnancy really.

I've had bits of soreness after sex too and bit of pinkish blood once. I called triage and they got me straight in to check. :) All was ok. Glad you're feeling better - if it gets worse again you could always call up triage or doctor as thrush has made sex painful for me in the past!xx

Thank you ladies, I appreciate the help 😊

There's lots of medical advice out there saying that sex during pregnancy is safe and not a cause of miscarriage. However enjoyment, discomfort and worry are very different matters and can ruin sex for us women.

Can you switch in oral sex instead or mutual masturbation to similar frequency of sex before? Going no sex and expecting your husband to not feel rejected and the resultant frustration arguments on both sides is unrealistic. You're probably a year before normal body function and personally I don't think many relationships can survive no sex for a year nevermind get back to a healthy sexlife in future.

Good luck with rest of your pregnancy 💕
