Will WTTW do an abdo scan instead of tv if I ask?

I’ve got an early scan booked tonight at Window to the womb as I’ve had a bit of spotting, and have just realised their policy is to do an internal scan if you’re under 10 weeks, I’m about 7.5 weeks.
Reason why I don’t want an internal is because I have an ectropion on my cervix which bleeds super easy (pretty sure this is why I’m spotting now) and I’m quite sure that this would set it off or make it worse and cause worry. I called and the man who answered the phone said I could discuss it with the sonographer at my appointment but I’m a bit worried I’m going to turn up and them say internal or not at all. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Not with that company specifically but have had early scans about the same mark and they always did an abdominal scan first and only moved to TV if she couldn't get a good 'view' with an abdominal.

Do drinks lots of water - it's much easier to empty a bladder than fill and it does help.

There's no reason they would refuse an abdominal scan, they just might say they're more limited in what they can tell you without a TV. They should still be able to see quite a bit without a TV at 7.5 weeks though, if your dates are accurate (I was about the same and saw heartbeat etc)

Thank you @lifehappens12 🙂 Yes I’m planning on going with a full bladder!!

I had a scan with my first at the same stage and that was abdominal but like you say with a different company. I’ve also had a scan with this one at 6 weeks which was abdominal also and they still managed to get a good picture so hopefully it’ll be fine. Just read on here that wttw just go straight to internal before 10 weeks but maybe if I ask they’ll try abdo first 🤞🏼

What @lifehappens12 said - BMI and bloating are also factors I think, but you can't do much about that at this point!

Someone I know used WTTW for their early scan and requested an external scan, their picture wasn’t as good as the one I had internally though. Not that that really matters as long as you get the heartbeat!
at the end of the day you’re paying them, they have the facilities there to do either, I’d be VERY surprised if they said no

Thanks everyone 🫶🏼 they did an abdo scan and got to see baby with the heartbeat flickering away. Unfortunately I’m measuring 4 days behind where I should be. My last scan last Tues (also abdo) I was measuring 6+6 and today I’m only measuring 7+1 so not sure if that’s bad news or not x

They're so tiny at that stage that it's not unusual to be off by a few days, I measured four days behind at an early scan and then at my 12 week scan I measured 1 week ahead

That's probably because you've had 2x abdominal scans which aren't best practice at this gestation because it's harder to get a good view of the baby. Measuring discrepancies likely down to that. Don't worry!
