Hi,

I am looking for some advice for the best cream/lotion to use on my babies face.

He has lots of dry skin around his eye brows (cradle cap) he doesn't seem to have this on his scalp as of yet it just seems to be around his eyebrows.

I'm a first time mam so not really sure if the best treatment for this to help.

I am in the uk :)

Thank you

Coconut oil is good for cradle cap. Leave it on for 15 minutes then wipe it off. It softens the skin and loosens the cradle cap.

Another vote for coconut oil!

My son had it really bad. Coconut oil helped get the bits on his forehead off. He had so much hair when born that the coconut oil made his hair look really greasy though, so we left the cradle cap on his actual scalp and it gradually went away on it's own by about 12 months. It didn't cause him any issue while he had it x

I used that on my baby and my 6yr old and it was amazing! Does leave hair a bit greasy.

OMG DO NOT USE COCONUT OIL. I used this on my 2nd child, it had some sort of reaction to her and went rancid, and I was robbed of the lovely smell of a newborn scalp. Horrific. It lasted 2-3 weeks despite my best efforts. Try the Loyon stuff instead.

Weleda baby oil has done wonders for both my kids cradle cap

I tried everything!!!!

Coconut oil
Baby oil
Nipple balm
Sudacream
Sweet almond oil
Olive oil
Black seed oil
Shea butter
Cocoa butter
Special Massage
Special Combs
Etc
Etc
Etc.

And for us the only thing that worked, we saw a dermatologist at 6months and she gave us 1.2/1.5% I forget now, steroid cream and it cleared it up within 2 weeks and it never came back again.

This! They use this in Europe! Cleared out my baby's cradle cap in less than a month (only washed her head twice a week).

Do not use coconut oil!

Nothing. I tried all sorts with my eldest and nothing got rid of it. It eventually went away when she was 4-5 years old.

SouthwestSis · 08/09/2023 20:55

Most cradle cap is completely harmless so you dont need to treat it with anything and it will clear up as little one gets older

Spottypineapple · 08/09/2023 21:29

Breastmilk apparently, or Nothing, it will go away on its own.

My son had it quite bad and when his hair grew in thick as he got older you couldn’t see it anymore. Fast forward to a holiday abroad where he was in the pool most of the holiday and one night a massive scabby crust came off his scalp in one piece and it was gone forever! It was one of the best nights of my life 😅
