Reassuring EPU scan

Hi all

just wanted to offer a reassuring early pregnancy scan story as I’ve found these comforting recently.

I got referred for a scan by my GP due to some bleeding I’d been having. I’d convinced myself that the worst outcome would happen.

when I got to my scan, they tried an ultrasound first but couldn’t see anything. That’s when I thought that it was all over. However, they then did a vaginal ultrasound and managed to see the yolk sac! Turns out I was a week earlier than I thought (currently 5 wks) due to a longer cycle.

they also spotted a bleed which would explain my blood loss. I was told that this would either be reabsorbed, or could be an early warning sign. I’ve got to go back in a week for another scan to see how everything’s developing.

although I’m not out of the woods, just wanted to offer a semi reassuring story to anyone who is experiencing the same as I was. For now, I’ve been told all looks normal for 5 weeks, so I’ve just gotta keep the faith that all will be fine x

Just to add to this, I had a bleed on Monday thought I was 6 weeks 3 days, went to EPU and they booked me a scan for Tuesday. Went to the scan absolutely petrified, totally expecting the worst or to be in limbo, but thankfully my little bean was in there with their flickering heartbeat measuring 2 days ahead of what I thought!!

As you say we’re not out of the woods yet but I’m hoping for a positive outcome 🫶🏼

Had similar! A big bleed at 5+3 through 5+6- was scanned at 5+6 and they saw a haematoma which I was told is nothing to worry about. I have had another big bleed since and lots of brown spotting. I’m awake early because I’m going in again this morning to confirm a heartbeat and I’m nervous. But no reason to think it will be anything but good news.

Thanks so much everyone! It was good news. It turns out I didn’t have a haematoma. It looks like it was a twin pregnancy very early on, but only one baby is viable. And the other sac is causing the bleeding. Got to go back in 3 weeks. But just another reason why you can be bleeding and it all be ok! I also have a heart shaped uterus that is already stretched out to be normal so that risk has gone. Thinking of everyone else and hoping for as good a news x
