Birth experience after PPH?

First baby - Spontaneous labour at 40+2 with mild PPH which was controlled in the room and no concerns - I was discharged the next day

Second baby - Induced due to high BP at 38+2 with no intervention, however, significant PPH and had to go under GA due to a hematoma (a very quick labour)

Due our third in February 2024 and have been advised by the midwife I'll be "watched like a hawk" however, I am petrified that I will have another PPH. I am on aspirin to help my BP so fingers crossed I can avoid an induction which would be one positive.

If you experienced PPH with any births and went onto another, how was it?

I had a PPH with first baby. I had my second 5 years later, I couldn’t have a water birth and did need to be on labour ward in a room instead of MLU. They gave me the injection to deliver the placenta straight away rather than waiting, and they put a cannula in preemptively, which wasn’t needed. I did have some bleeding, not enough to class as PPH and I didn’t feel anything like after I had my PPH.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience @tealandteal 😊 Glad you had a positive birth the second time.

You probably won't like this one but I guess you want honest experiences. I had a moderate PPH with one baby. Had the next baby and it was a near disaster. I wasn't game to try again.

@MyGardensAMess I am so sorry to read this, how terrifying. Thank you for sharing ❤️

I have this fear mine will just get worse and worse 😔 Of course every birth is different but still an overwhelming thought. All I can do is wait and see I guess!

Do you know what the cause of your PPH is? That can make a difference as to how much more at risk you might be next time. It's possible that your risk might not be any higher than normal with a managed third stage. I didn't have that with my previous babies but I would if I ever found myself birthing again (though I don't plan to take that risk by choice).

@MyGardensAMess They say it's due to my uterus not contracting properly after birth. I got the injection with my second birth and I still had a PPH.

I recon this will be our last pregnancy so I would love a positive post birth experience 🤞🏼

Good luck. I hope the third time is the charm for you. :-)

I had PPH with my first due to placenta accreta. I was induced at 36 weeks due to preeclampsia. 4 blood transfusions.

My second I was consultant led due to the above and they then found I had a bicornuate uterus at the beginning of this pregnancy. They did a growth scan to check for placenta accreta at 29+1 weeks. The consultant wasn’t sure so I was referred to another hospital at 30 weeks to recheck as this had been the cause of the PPH in my first pregnancy. However I went into prem labour 2 days later at 29+4 so didn’t get that second scan. The placenta did get stuck and cause PPH but was nowhere near as bad as first as wasn’t accreta this time. Only one blood transfusion.
