I'm a bit new to this and also living overseas at the moment so missing being able to talk to friends back home about this kind of stuff. I'm due in August with number 1. I went for a check up at the weekend (I get a scan every month here) and was told that since my last visit at 12 weeks I have lost weight. It's not a big weight loss and I would have been only too glad of it before pregnancy but now I'm a bit worried. I've not really suffered from morning sickness and have eaten reasonably normally since finding out I was pregnant at about 6 weeks. Has anyone else experienced this? The doctor said it was nothing to worry about so I suppose I should take their word for it but I'm still a bit worried.

According to some previous threads on here I have read before its not completely unheard of. It can happen, especially in the earlier pregnancy stages.
I can't think which threads I saw mums to be put this on so I cant completely reassure you. Hopefully someone will be able to add their experiences to this thread soon.
Try not to worry. And CONGRATS! on your first baby!
Welcome to mumsnet and all that. Pull up a chair and get comfy. I really love it here, and I can't live without it!
Good Luck xxx

congratulations love. I always loose a fair amount of weight to start with - BUT I was very overweight to begin with and also very, very sick .

You lucky devil a scan every month - my eldest son (26yrs) and his lovley partner are expecting their first child in June (my first granbaby) and had their 20 wk scan and that is it now!

I think I would take notice of the doctor and just eat as healthily as poss and enjoy your lst baby - that sounds so lovley - 1st baby

Thanks for all your kind words. My hubby reckons it's because I've given up the alcohol....!

Yes shabster, the monthly scans are great my husband especially likes it as it makes him feel a bit more part of things but I do have to pay for them

I have some other questions as well so no doubt I will become a regular poster!

Yes, I lost weight because I gave up alcohol (quite partial to my wine, I'm afraid) and because I made more of a concerted effort to eat healthily, and had a narrower range of what I could eat (no more gorgeous gooey cheese).
When you're doing it for your child, as opposed to for yourself, it's alot easier. Don't worry, your baby will be having first dibs on the nutrients you're taking in, and your weight will increase.

I lost 10kg with all three pregnancies. I did have nausea but no vomiting.

I think it was not craving all the crap food I normally eat. Mainly ate fruits and veges.

All 3 babies were above 7lb and no problems.

I was lighter than my prepregnancy weight!!

whinegums · 03/03/2008 10:52

I was nearly a stone lighter at 12 weeks, and lost some more weight after that. Now at 24 weeks, I'm still about 7lbs lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight. I agree re the alcohol - if I'd cut that out and not been pregnant I'm pretty sure I would have lost weight anyway. I had some sickness, and lost my appetite as well. Fingers crossed I don't pile it all back on over the next 4 months though!
