Mucus plug

Hi first time mum sorry for the picture just need some advice I’m 30weeks+ 2 days pregnant is this my mucus plug coming away as I’ve heard it can come away in small pieces some times or is it discharge it’s very sticky and stringy like.

i have a gut feeling she’s going to come early and have had for a few weeks my mum said she looks like she’s dropping a few weeks ago as my bump is low

Could be your mucus plug, it looks a bit like it. That I wouldn't be concerned about but if you have any bleeding, smelly discharge or pain then call it in obviously. That looks normal to me.

Bump being low doesn't sound that concerning but you've said you've got a gut feeling going on. I would always seek advice from the midwife, if only just to put your mind at rest. I've heard 1st babies tend to get their head down ready earlier than 2nd and 3rd babies so it could be that's what's happening. You are probably also noticing more downwards pressure as baby gets bigger.

I thought head down was 36 weeks onwards. I'd check with a midwife. They never mind.

By all means check with your midwife but it isn't unusual for it to come away in bits and pieces as it regrows itself. I lost mine in its entirety at 32 weeks with DD2 and gave birth at 41+2, doesn't necessarily mean they are coming early.
If you have worries though, do speak to your midwife or give your maternity triage line a call just to talk it through with someone.

Wouldn’t say it was the plug. My experience was no question when it was actually the plug. It can regenerate though and it’s very common to come away and regenerate in the third trimester. Also babies head engaging doesn’t mean anything at all, especially if it’s your first baby, they engage sooner than subsequent pregnancies. I was convinced my second would be early and she was 40+2.

Oh I really wouldn't play this game, especially when you could have 10+ weeks of being pregnant left to go. A 'feeling' you're going to be early is unfortunately just wishful thinking. The end stages of pregnancy are hard, my advice (having gone overdue with both my pregnancies), is to just ignore the clock - that way lies madness and misery. Baby will come when baby will come.

Thank you however I wouldn’t really say I’m wishing she would come early that’s the last thing I want to happen if anything I would rather her be over due if anything or on time

It's not a lot of it so unless it keeps coming I wouldn't worry about that little bit op
Also the whole bump dropping thing is just the baby lowering, all totally normal and not a sign of labour 😄

Possibly a tiny bit of it. When I did lose my mucus plug it was massive. Maybe mention your gut feeling about baby arriving early but I don't think is much they can do unless you went into labour. With my second I remember feeling really uncomfortable almost like I was going to give birth any second from about 32 weeks. I gave birth both times at 38 weeks.
