Hospitals with walk-in early pg units - can anyone go, even if it's not your local hospital?

I've been having constant period-type pain all weekend, which is worrying me, because it's more than the occasional twinge which i think of as normal. I should be 10 weeks today.

My local hospital's epu isn't easily accessed - I don't feel it's bad enough to go to a&e, but if I see my GP tomorrow, even if I was offered a scan it probably wouldn't be before Wednesday.

I've found out Kings College Hospital has a walk in epu - would it matter that it's not my local hospital?

could you say you are on holiday/visiting frinds/family?

They could only say no I suppose... might be worth a try...

When you say not easily accesssed, do you mean you hvae to book in advance? don't know about epus, but you can go in to any hospital to be checked in the day assessment unit if they have one which Kings will, take your pregnancy book with you. Might be a massive wait though so worth calling up your community midwife's office first for advice.

What a scary time for you.

Have you looked here

referrals.kch.nhs.uk/directory/womens-services/epagau

I would give them a ring first thing Monday morning and explain your situation (Telephone number: 020 3299 1702).

Good luck - Lcy

Thanks Lcy
Sydenham - it's not possible to contact the epu directly, so as far as I know the only way is via a&e or gp who then fax a referral, and the epu then call with an appointment - when I had a mc, the scan was 4 days after I started bleeding, and I don't really want to wait that long for reassurance or bad news, iykwim, so was looking into alternatives
