High chance of baby having down symdrome 1:4

Hi, wondered if anyone else has had a 1:4 chance of baby having down symdrome after their combined nhs screening test and then a low chance on the nipt test? I've had the nipt test the day before yesterday but have a 2 week wait and really struggling. I'm showing already and my lo outed us at church so everyone knows we are expecting and can't face people at the atm incase they ask about the pregnancy, I had a panick attack yesterday because I had to go out to a medical appointment and was sick the day before when I had the nipt test because I was so anxious. Its really triggered my anxiety. The hospital referred me to pernital but I keep missing their calls and then they are unavailable. Any one with posative outcome stories would be appreciated.

Bumping for you - have no experience but hopefully someone else can offer theirs xx

@Utopiandream1982 I don't have any experience as I'm only 10 weeks but there is a antenatal tests forum on here which has lots of threads like this where you may find helpful answers x

We got a 1 in 7 on the combined but then (from memory something like) 1 in 10k from nipt. Please try to remember that the first one is just a computer taking input data and scoring that, try to stay positive until you have a more definitive result from nipt. Sending you happy and calming vibes x

I have a friend who had the same results (1:4) and their child didn’t have DS.

I would probably trust the NIPT more as it is meant to be way more accurate. The worrying thing would be if all tests were telling you were high risk. How old are you? I am pregnant at 42 and the midwife advised me to do NIPT as due to my age the combined test might come high risk.

Hi
I would really recommend calling ARC (Antenatal results and choices), I had a risk of 1:10 on my NT and called with the figures for the HCG and PAPP-A etc and she went through it all in detail, I found it really helpful.
In my case the high risk was due to my age (39) and I also have low PAPP-A which means I will have extra growth scans. My NIPT came back low risk, I had a 16w reassurance scan as was still a bit worried which was fine and my 20 week scan was also reassuring. Good luck and I hope you get your results soon, I was so anxious during the wait I was having palpitations so I know how you feel x

I was coming on to recommend ARC
https://www.arc-uk.org/
but I can see @Jupiteer has got there already. They were so helpful to us and I always recommend them on these threads. I know how hard it is to go through these tests and they will guide you through. They are extremely knowledgeable but also kind (I cried throughout the call).

I'm 40, was expecting a high result but more like 1:100 not 1:4. Also came back as low PappA which I haven't had in my other pregnancys so we are now under fetal medcine, this is our third child. The scan was fine but I have diabetes think that and my age with the blood test results have increased the risk, just had gestational before but type 2 from last year and had to go on insulin since becoming pregnant. My last baby was born in 2019 when I was 36 and we were low risk. Just shocked it came back so high. Know nipt is more accurate but also worried about false negatives as I know they can happen especially with a higher risk result.

@Utopiandream1982 I have done the blood test today for NIPT and last week for the NHS. I have my 12 week scan next Monday. I am a ball of nerves for the results. I am thinking that if all comes back high risk, then I will have no choice but to go through the amniocentesis. At our age these things are really nerve wracking.
