Pregnancy diet

I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant with DC2. I have found it much harder this time around to eat healthily. I haven't put on excess weight or anything, my concern is more to do with the effect this will have on the baby.

For example, today I have eaten 2 pains au chocolat and half a packet of rich tea bisucuits (the reduced sugar ones). I've also eaten an apple, some olives and some veggie sushi, and taken my multivitamin, and drunk about a litre and a half of water. I'm avoiding caffeine.

I spoke to a midwife about my concerns, and she basically said that as long as I'm not exclusively eating junk food, it's fine, and to be a bit more realistic this time around, given this time I have a toddler who I am looking after, as well as a full time job, my share of housework, mental load etc. I still don't feel great about it though.

Is anyone else struggling in this way? Do you have any tips? I've always been quite a healthy person so I am finding the fact I seem to be craving unhealthy food a bit disheartening, especially during pregnancy.

This is me too!
I'm currently 30 weeks and my diet has been poor, especially for the first 4 months when all I could stomach was pasta, mcdonalds and apples.

I'm trying to eat less processed food but it's been a real struggle.

I had some good food today (2 portions of home made veggie and buckwheat stew, an apple, some pineapple, some seaweed) but also a home made brownie and a pop tart.

Ugh :(

I'm glad it's not just me @Alloveragain3

I think your diet today sounds pretty balanced, especially given a lot of it seems home made, and I remember feeling similar in my first trimester. I could only really manage bland food.

Is this your first baby? x

Oh believe me, the home made thing is not an every day occurrence!

Some days I'm so tired it's just noodles, crisps and chocolate :(

This is baby number 2 and I've found healthy eating a lot harder this time as I'm just generally more exhausted.

Baby takes what it needs. You really don’t have anything to worry about.

Baby will take what they need from you, a poor diet will affect you a lot more than it will affect baby. That said I don’t think your diet sounds all that bad in the grand scheme of things

Hi all, I just wanted to mention that it turns out I have had low ferritin levels. Since I've been on iron tablets, my urge to eat crap has drastically reduced (not disappeared completely, alas).

No idea if there is anything more than a casual connection there, but sharing in case it helps someone else.
