Sweep

Has anyone had a Sweep that’s worked the first time around? I’m 39 weeks + 4 and just seen the midwife today and had a sweep. This is my second pregnancy, I never had one with the first so not totally clued up on what it is and how it works although any other person I’ve known to have one they’ve always had around 3. I’m just wondering if anyone has only had one sweep and it worked??

There’s no evidence to really say they work at all, they may speed up the process slightly if your body is already ready for labour. Most people I know who have had one haven’t had any effects from it, the ones that have gone in to labour can’t be sure they wouldn’t have naturally anyway. My trust won’t do them until 41 weeks so I’ve never actually had one myself
