I am sooooo tired and demotivated. How do I build up energy in the first trimester.

I know, first trimester fatigue is completely normal. However I have found myself demotivated, tired and I able to find the energy to her work done. I work from home and I’ve noticed that I will wake up early, eat, check emails, fall asleep just after 10am, wake up at midday. I then feel tired and I’m just about able to go through emails but I’m just not completing my work tasks.

I’ve found myself feeling tired, often and tasks like washing the dishes takes so much energy and almost leave me emotional.

I am waiting for antenatal care and for a GP appointment. Apparently I have to wait up to 10 days on the NHS. I can’t tell if it’s depression, normal or maybe health related (blood sugar levels etc).

Any tips on fighting fatigue whilst I wait to see an expert.

It's normal! You're growing a tiny person! It'll pass shortly.

tuttifritti · 30/08/2023 04:36

You can take spatone iron supplement which is recommended in pregnancy and you can buy sachets at the pharmacy.
Absolute game changer for me. Tastes AWFUL so have it in juice. But will get better in 2nd trimester for sure.

Honestly rest as much as you need to/can.I was bed bound most of first trimester.First trimester is so bloody hard and your body is going through so many big changes.I’ve just gone into 13 weeks and so glad to see the back of first trimester.Hang in there 🙏🏾

Dogandbabymama · 30/08/2023 05:38

I could have written this - I really feel your pain. I’ve had to take so much time off work over the last few weeks (commute to London) and am so stressed about being perceived as a slacker. I’ve just been given iron supplements for low iron, am hoping they help soon. Best of luck to you x

There's a reason you're feeling tired: you're growing a baby. As much as possible, I'd surrender to it instead of "fighting through". The body has its own wisdom and right now your will comes secondary to the phenomenal job it's undertaking.

Congratulations, btw!

Nuglife123 · 30/08/2023 08:35

It's the most tired you'll ever feel EVER. Even the newborn stage isn't as brutal as the first trimester! Definitely get bloods done incase low iron etc but don't worry too much it's totally normal

BudgetBuster · 30/08/2023 10:02

I'm coming up on 13 weeks, and honestly all I can say is I do my work and that's pretty much it. I tend to leave the house stuff to my DH midweek and do my share at the weekend when I'm not working. I physically cannot do more than my job in any given day.

I just don't go out or do anything except work... the basic work day takes all my energy! When I get home from work I am exhausted, I say no to most invitations to go out after work!

Nuglife123 · 30/08/2023 11:18

It was for me 🤷‍♀️

log51 · 30/08/2023 12:05

I'm 36 weeks pregnant now and I felt exactly the same in the first trimester. Just absolutely exhausted and then quite down. Luckily could work from home but couldn't get through the day without a nap! Cancelled all my social plans for a good few weeks.

It does pass though! Was getting better by 12 weeks then by about 14 weeks I had loads of energy again!

One thing I would recommend though is making sure you are eating enough iron rich food as later my bloods showed that I was iron deficient (and had been taking pregnacare supplements every day) and I think this is because in first trimester I was really struggling to eat meat and vegetables, so if you can stomach them get as many in as poss!

Buy a dishwasher :D

MadamPia · 30/08/2023 18:33

Thanks @tuttifritti I actually started a new routine as I’ve paid attention to when I slump and have included iron tablets in the morning.

@Liveafr wish it would fit in my pokey London flat! Not a bad idea

@BudgetBuster glad to hear I’m not the only one cancelling everything!

@log51 thanks for the tips. Will add red meat to our shopping list as I’ve been looking into high energy and beneficial foods.

I’m happy to hear that it gets better after 14 weeks. Happy to hear it’s all going well x
