When given your C-section date, did the consultant just give you a date, or was a preferred date discussed for all parties?
It will be my second elective, but my first it was elected for the next morning due to pregnancy complications.
I’ve been told I’ll have a date at my 36 week app, but I’m not sure what to expect.

It's usually at 39 weeks to try to balance letting baby develop as much as possible - especially lung function - against risk of going into labour spontaneously. Depending on what else is going on in the hospital they might have to tweak it.

It will depend on the previous delivery. Was it early? It's usually 38/39 weeks but if DC1 was 37 weeks they may do earlier. It will be the consultants choice though.

GreenAventurinee · 28/08/2023 22:18

Previous delivery was 35 weeks. Consultant has said that providing how the next few weeks go, 39 weeks is our aim atm.

I think I’m wondering more about the day. Eg will he give me the option of 9th, 10th, or 12th. Or will it be just one date and I’ll have no choice.

At ours the elective ones are only on certain days eg Tuesdays and Thursdays. But they did sort of let me choose as I wanted it as close to 40 weeks as poss x

eliayd · 28/08/2023 22:22

They gave me a date. Between 38/39 x

NameChangeEmbarressed · 28/08/2023 22:23

My hospital it's usually 38/39 weeks. On a Monday or Thursday whichever suits the consultant team

Franxxx · 28/08/2023 22:23

I think if you’re quite forward you could probably say no to a specific date but at both of mine I just said yes when they said the date. I do know of people who have said the date didn’t suit though, one because of childcare and the consultant just moved it to the earlier day

Bumble84 · 28/08/2023 22:24

Mine was the first weekday after turning 39 weeks. I’ve heard of people getting a date and then being called to come in early as well though, I presume you could decline if it didn’t suit for childcare etc

GreenAventurinee · 28/08/2023 22:33

I wonder if my hospital only does scheduled c sections on certain days…. one to ask my midwife.

mine was 39+1, there was a bank holiday so the OB put me in for the next working day as they only scheduled the electives in Monday-Friday in my trust. She just said let’s go for X, didn’t really ask what worked for me but I didn’t have childcare issues etc as it was my first.

scrantonelectriccity · 29/08/2023 04:07

Yes mine let me choose any date on one particular week

JohnNolan · 29/08/2023 06:38

Mine were both on the first weekday after I turned 39 weeks
