Think I've miscarried but I hadn't confirmed pregnancy - would you get checked out?

Hi,

Please excuse the long explanation!

So I had unprotected sex (I know I know) bang slap in the middle of my fertile window. My period then didn't come and I had a few pregnancy symptoms (frequent urination and very sore nipples) I decided to wait a few more days and take a test. We have 2 kids already so, while not ideal, it wouldn't have been disastrous.

Then at 6 days late my period started. I was relieved but it was weird - very light and bright red (just drops really).

Then yesterday pm I had the most awful stabbing pain on my right hand side which was ok when I sat or lay down but really bad when I stood up and worsened if I moved around. It was like very bad ovulation pain. I considered a and e as I was worried about ectopic but decided to keep an eye on it and go if it got worse.

This morning the bleeding is now heavy and I passed a small clot about the size of a 50p but it has been quite mucusy and doesn't feel like a period. I have lower back pain now instead of the side pain and I feel generally quite crap but bleeding seems to have reduced.

I have had a miscarriage before at 13 weeks but it was a very different experience for various reasons.

I think it probably is a very early miscarriage but do people think I should get it checked out? Especially with the right sided pain? I have ordered some tests to arrive tomorrow so if they are negative can I assume that if it was a pregnancy that it has all now passed? I guess if it's positive I need to check that it eventually turns negative so that we know it is all clear.

Xxx

I’d get checked out incase of retained products.

Hoping you’re ok xx

I had something very similar happen to me when I was trying for my first baby. I also passed a large clot, it was in the toilet after I went for a wee, I felt it slide out of me (sorry for the TMI) so I didn’t examine it too closely. I am 99% sure it was a miscarriage. I’ve since had 4 children and have never had a bleed like it since and I’ve never had anything like it before. I didn’t get it checked out at the time, but was much younger.

I would if it happened now, because like you have mentioned, there are potential risks. I didn’t at the time because I hadn’t had a positive pregnancy test and didn’t want to waste anyone’s time.

I think it would be worth seeing someone. Or even take a test asap because if you were pregnant, I think it’s highly likely you would still get 2 lines on a test xx

Thank you for replying. Yes this is an unusual bleed. If the test is still positive tomorrow I'll call the docs xxx
