Headaches

I've been experiencing terrible headaches for the past few days, on one side of my head and behind my right eye.

Do I need to be concerned about this and if so when? Paracetamol doesn't really help either and it just lingers for ages. I'm well hydrated, I'm constantly drinking water so it must be pregnancy related.

Hey Hun, not a professional here but have suffered different headaches (cluster, chronic tension, migraines and medication induced) since i was 6.

How far along are you? After 20 weeks headaches alongside other symptoms can be a sign of preeclampsia and therefore would need to be checked. It can be low blood sugar.

You sound like you are experiencing a bad cluster headache from the way you are describing it. They are awful I know!

It could easily just be hormonal, lots of hormonal changes can cause headaches. Also if your sleep has been affected recently or if you have cut down on coffee etc

My sons pregnancy somehow the change in hormones actually almost fixed my headaches! I went from some form of headache every single day to a mild headache every few months and a migraine/ cluster headache a couple times of year. Insane what those hormone shifts can do! Many people are the opposite of me and headaches are far worse in pregnancy.

Oh another thing that could cause it, sinus can become blocked and stuffy in pregnancy, especially early pregnancy. This is highly possible to cause headaches too!

Just a few things for you to think about and work out potential severity of what you're experiencing x

Not sure how far along you are, but around week 20ish, maybe slightly later, I had really bad headaches. It seemed to coincide with hayfever, which as ttcmumma has said makes you blocked and stuffy. I don’t really get them now, except when I’m tired or haven’t drank enough water.

Ask your midwife for help if you’re struggling though. Headaches are awful when they’re bad 😕

Thanks for the replies. I've still got the headache, had it since dinner time today and paracetamol has only taken the edge off Sad I'm only 13 weeks

Probably say I've had it on and off for about a week now, it's horrible!

I had these on and off for about 2-3 weeks around 12 weeks also. I never really got to the bottom of it but my guess was hormones/not resting enough. I'm 22 weeks now and find on days when I do too much cleaning or have a lot on my plate then I feel it coming on again so I try to rest or have a nap!

I had this in my second pregnancy. I had headaches every bloody day. They normally started around 11am and nothing would take them away other than sleeping (not ideal when you have a toddler and a job!) I just used those forehead pad thingies which helped somwhat. They did eventually go away at about 18 or so weeks I think.

Sorry not very helpful but it's not unusual

Hi @user26758 I'm exactly the same. I'm 14 weeks and have had a constant headache for the past 2 weeks. Paracetamol doesn't help by 4head takes the edge off. Mine are on my left side above my eye and around the temple so definitely a cluster headache.
I even went for an eye test as they are so relentless. I have put it down to hormones so hopefully the further along we get the better they get.
I hope you feel better soon

I’ve been having daily headaches from about 13 weeks, I’m currently 15 weeks. Today have woken up and it’s gone at last, had two pints of water during the night. I think even though I thought I was drinking enough, judging how much I drank last night by putting the extra pint glass next to me, it could be dehydration. I’m also not sleeping well so think that’s triggering mine too. Take the paracetamol and try rest when you can. Keep an eye on any other symptoms and call midwife if you’re still worried. There are some drugs you can take other than paracetamol if it’s like a migraine - they can advise.
