oil based gloss paint

I don't normally overthink these things, but I'm 32 weeks and really need to paint the skirting boards and door in the nursery before the carpet goes down next week. I've got gloss paint for it (eggshell/waterbased paint isn't an option on top of whats already on them. Plus I have a copious amounts of oil based undercoat and gloss at home already)
I can't find a straight answer as to whether it's safe to use it when pregnant, only that it's 'better' to use water based.
It's a small room so each coat would only take maybe 10 minutes max. I've got a load of old ready-for-the-bin brushes that I'll use and get rid of for each coat so won't be faffing about with white spirit/turps.
shall I/shan't I?! 🙈

Oil based paint makes me feel really ill at the best of times so personally I'd avoid it but I guess if you do use it make sure the room is very well ventilated while using it and for several days afterwards. I don't suppose there are any standard masks that you can wear to limit exposure but might be worth looking into. Alternatively can you ask someone else do it for you?

I agree with @hopefulmum46 completely - I accidentally used this paint without knowing the risks at 19 weeks and felt awful (in bed dizzy/headache) and so guilty for the rest of the day. You have to make sure your home is ventilated for a couple of days after. Could you at least go out whilst someone does it for you then return later on? X

I think oil paint and pregnancy is one of those things it isn't ethical to conduct research into, and the absence of data leads to 'avoid' advice.

At 32 weeks, I would imagine risks would be minimal/negligible if you wore a proper decorator's filter mask for sanding, wiping down, painting etc and well ventilated the room afterwards.

Is there no-one who could do it for you?

Well ventilated, for a short period of time, it will be absolutely fine.
Source: I tested paint in a previous life. Pregnancy forced me out from the labs that made ink, but paint (waterborne and solventborne) wasn't an issue.

Unfortunately nobody else- the carpet man has said he's coming tuesday or thursday to lay the carpet and I doubt I'll get it done before then anyway. Think I'll have to go heavy on the masking tape over the new carpet and let the husband do it when he gets home in October!🙈 thanks guys

Covering the carpet thoroughly at a later stage will be fine.

Congratulations on your baby btw!
