Induction next week!

Have had a number of complications with the pregnancy, been in and out of hospital and now there are concerns about baby’s size, so they’ve recommended an induction ASAP which is Tuesday.

I did ask if I can have a section instead but they said it would count as elective and therefore they can’t guarantee it will be within the next 2 weeks, and there is risk to baby to leave it (but not enough for them to book an emergency 😬).

Feeling really nervous about it and worried about the birth and risk to baby. Think part of why I wanted the section was because I feel like it’s safer for the baby, rather than all the drugs and the risks with her being too big.

Has anyone at least survived an induction (I know there’s no way it’ll be pleasant) and can share any tips?

I'm old and had gestational diabetes. I was offered an induction at 37 weeks or c section at 38. I'd take the induction any day as it's less healing time. Was in labour for 13 hrs but dd was back to back which didn't help. I had an epidural as I was told the contractions are stronger with an induction.
One tip? If you have an epidural, eat before they do it as they won't let you eat after and if labour's long you'll be hungry!

I was induced at 37+6. I had a great experiance & the birth I had hoped for. They inserted pessary at 8:30pm & things started quickly for me.In the morning the pessary was removed as body & baby didn’t like it. I was 6cm at that point.Taken down to delivery & i laboured with gas & air & yoga ball. Had an amazing experiance & very thankful for it. Waters were broken by doc. Son arrived at 2pm. Good luck OP it doesn’t always end up being a negative experiance. I would highly recommend digital pack from positive birth company as it will help you a lot.

I had two inductions. One hormonal, one non-hormonal. I found the hormonal one better and quicker. It was completely fine my waters being broken, no pain with that at all. I found the drip intense and one of my pregnancies ended up in an emergency section.
Even though mine were not ‘straight forward’ I recovered well and it didn’t seem to matter at all when I was holding my babies.
I personally would opt for a vaginal birth (even with inductions) over a section because I found the recovery better.
Good luck OP. I hope yours goes smoothly and you have your babe in arms soon.
