Braxton Hicks - 28 Weeks

I’m 28 weeks pregnant - have had sporadic braxton hicks for a couple of weeks. Tonight I’m noticing a lot more! Not painful, and very quick, but they keep coming. Anyone else had this?

I did experience these in my last pregnancy, so rationally I’m hoping it’s just how I am. Like I said no pain, just an obvious tightness lasting maybe 20 seconds but on repeat.

I know to contact mat unit if at all concerned/they’re painful. Just wondering what other’s experience has been! Thanks!

Hi OP, I had very noticeable strong braxton hicks from late in the 2nd trimester onwards with both my pregnancies. Sometimes the contractions were very regular and close together. One time I ended up going into hospital (at 31 weeks) to get checked out. The contraction monitor was going insane but my cervix was still closed. It was weird but there was nothing amiss. Both pregnancies went full term.

I had similar Braxton Hicks contractions and ended up having a premature delivery at 28 weeks. Please do get checked out particularly if they become painful like mind did.

They can be made worse by things like babies position or dehydration, but yes very normal at that stage

Lillybobs86 · 25/08/2023 20:49

Urh yes I have them all the time and I'm 26 weeks.
I went for a private cervical scan a few days ago and she said my cervix was still long and closed so if your worried you should get checked for reassurance.
Sometimes I mistake then for baby laying on my bladder or that does causes one or on days I know I haven't drunk much water I seem to get more x

Thank you so much for the responses! They did calm down last night - I realised I probably was very dehydrated and drank plenty.
I will get checked out if ever really concerned, or in pain. I did go in and ended up overnight with last pregnancy as like @Maryplane monitor picked them up regularly. But it was concluded it’s just how I am! Going to try and drink more now!
thank you!

I’m getting them loads too, 2nd pregnancy, seem to be triggered by overexertion/not drinking enough/after a large meal!
