Fairy lights in birth hospital bag?

Can someone tell me if this is the new normal? My tiktok is full of pregnancy videos, including women packing their hospital bags with fairy lights/battery operated tea lights for during labour.

I can't imagine getting in to delivery and trying to get a load of fairy lights hung up

Yep, I took battery fairy lights, calming room spray, my own pillow, ipad, headphones, hand cream, lip balm etc. Lots of birthing suites are set up now with mood lighting etc - there is truth in that the body is more likely to progress the labour if you are calm and relaxed. My BMI stopped me being able to use the suite so I wanted to make the horrible room I was stuck in for three days for induction as nice as I could.
The midwives loved it.
When about finally got going my husband also brought in an icebox with frozen slushy isotonic drinks, straws, snacks.
It made the whole miserable experience so much more bearable.

I didn’t take them. Then again I chose an induction for my first, and a planned section for my second. So I don’t think I’m the target audience 😁

I studied all the 'what to bring to hospital' lists in the pregnancy magazines I used to read - and took a mirror (had to buy a hand held one)
During labour DH asked me if I wanted him to get the mirror so I could look at what was happening 'down there' I screamed at him - I can FEEL what is happening!!

My midwife dimmed the lights when I was labouring in the birthing pool, this was 19 years ago. She asked if I wanted the radio on, so I laboured to the dulcet tones of Terry Wogan. Very comforting it was too.

With my second, I laboured in front of repeats of Gardeners World (while dozing in between contractions) before transferring to the birth pool. Monty Don's voice is very relaxing!

Gardner's world is just about perfect background labouring material @Poppins2016 ! Nothing too demanding and Monty was easy on the eyes Grin

@spuddel great minds think alike... 😁

I'm hoping to do the same again with my third in April next year!

It’s a bit hard to read ‘War and Peace’ whilst your 11lb baby is crowning, but on the other hand it is better to have to do it without bright clinical lights shining in your face like you’re being interrogated by Herr Flick from ‘Allo ‘Allo…..

I took electric candles for post lartum
and the nurses commented on how nice they were.
better than harsh hospital lighting

It wasn’t a thing when I had mine but I can imagine it might be nice if you had that sort of labour.
