Hi everyone - I am 7 weeks and 4 days pregnant based off last period and just had my first scan. They believe I am 5 weeks and 4 days since conception.

They where able to detect the fetal pole and said everything looks like it's in the right place and going nicely. However she said it was hard to find a heartbeat although she seen a little bit of movement.

Looking for some positive stories, I am hoping when I go for another scan that the heart beat will be detected. Is it possible that it is just a bit too early?

at the midwife 8 week app she told me they have problems sometimes detecting a heartbeat even at 12 weeks as baby is so small.so if the other bits look good hopefully you’ll be fine at the next scan. Good luck!

There every chance that it's a bit early and you may see it on your next scan. Did you have internal or abdominal scan?

VicH13 · 18/08/2023 09:14

I had a scan last week and 5 weeks + 2 and saw the same (sac, yolk and tiny fetal pole). Said it was too early for heartbeat and was booked in again (today!) at 6 weeks + 5 hoping so see if today as a bit further. So I would say absolutely normal and no need to worry at this stage x

There is very little chance of hearing a heartbeat before 6 weeks, so I wouldnt worry.

As for not hearing heartbeats at 12 weeks... Id say thats on the midwife, and not due to it being hard.
I had a scan yesterday at 6+6 and the heartbeat was loud and clear, and the doctor found it straight away!

5+4 since conception would be the same as 7+4 since lmp. But they don’t usually measure scans as in from conception, usually the 2 weeks before conception are counted in how far long you are on a scan too.

totally normal not to see a heartbeat before 6 weeks so that’s not anything to worry about.

@snoopy18 thank you for responding! I'm hopeful that next scan I can see progression 🤞🏻

@VicH13 thanks for your reply! just wondering if you could update me on how your second scan went the other day? I hope it all went well for you!! It's such a hard time in the first few months. I am trying not to worry too much but it's getting the better of me at times.

Hi @nmt1996 sorry my account @VicH13 has locked me out! So I’m on this ancient one lol.

Second scan showed everything as expected. Baby was much bigger and they actually pushed me on a couple of days (I also went again a few days later after a small episode of spotting, was scanned again and they pushed me on another 3 days with size of baby!). The bleeding was caused by a small hematoma and they weren’t too concerned. I could see it on the scan and it didn’t look like it was interfering with baby so 🤞🏽.

Today I am 8 weeks + 2 which is the most pregnant I’ve ever been!

How have you been getting on? I hope you are well xx

nmt1996 · 27/08/2023 11:40

@31andTrying thank you so much for getting back to me! I am still waiting on my second scan but I had my HCG levels tested again to give me some peace of mind while I wait and they went from 1250 to 10800 so I'm feeling okay for now.

I'm so happy for you! You have 4 weeks to get to the 'safe' mark, your so close 💕 looks like it's all going well though so I would say your having your first successful pregnant! How exciting xx

I have a 10 year old boy that I had at 16, and after him I had a miscarriage. I'm trying to remind myself my body can and has carried a baby and hoping this pregnancy goes well at my next scan 🤞🏻

Oh that’s a fabulous rise!!! @nmt1996 I’m so glad they could give you peace of mind! Do you have a date for your scan? Absolutely your body can do this too! - especially if it has before. Are you having any symptoms?

Thank you so much☺️ I’m hoping this is the one after 3 b2b mc’s. I have my midwife appointment on Monday and I’m almost in disbelief as I’ve never gotten this far before🤣🤞🏽 but all seems well and morning sickness gets more intense everyday - I’ve been counting my lucky stars for it though! xx

@31andTrying I have been at the hospital all night after a bleed. My HCG has dropped to 10,200 and they couldn't find baby on bedside ultrasound 😞 I'm waiting for a proper ultrasound today but they said it looks like I'm miscarrying xx
