94th centile at 24 weeks!?

I’m 24 weeks pregnant with my second. Today I went for a private growth scan because my first was born a teeny 6lbs3 at 40+6, and the NHS pathway had raised some potential concerns for this pregnancy due to this.

At my 20 week anomaly scan baby was on the 40th centile and both uterine artery PI readings were raised albeit below the threshold for the my NHS trust to be concerned.

Fast forward to my private growth scan today and baby is huge!! Obviously it’s a relief to know he’s growing well but I’d only heard of these numbers when diabetes was involved.

I’ve already had 1 gestational diabetes test and I was well within normal limits, and I have another in 2 weeks.

Looking at the numbers, baby has very long legs and is overall “large”, so not just tummy. Anybody else had this around this gestation?

Sonographer not even remotely concerned, said totally normal but I’m just curious :)

My DS was massive at the 20 week scan, I had growth scans every two weeks where he was always on the 99th. Born at 40 weeks at 7,13 🤷‍♀️ he then did grow very quickly and was in 6months clothes at 3 months. Very normal sized 4 year old now.

Congratulations by the way! Hope it all goes well

@Chunkymonkey123 oh wow! Did they do the serial scans because he was found to be large at the 20 week scan, or was that unrelated? Just unsure as to whether I should notify my midwife of this or not!

I had my 24 week appointment this week and after having my fundal measurement taken, the midwife was concerned I was measuring behind. I got sent for a growth scan the same day where I was told he was actually measuring in the 90th percentile! So I'm currently in a similar position!

@Lavender96 I was measured behind twice in my first pregnancy, at one point tbe midwife measured me 6 weeks behind but the hospital midwife measured me exactly where I was meant to be. Scans were always normal but he ended up 6lbs3 which is small. From what I’ve read they’re notoriously inaccurate, but…. 😐

Did they say anything re your 90th centile measurement?

When I was measuring very big at the 20 week scan the hospital booked in the extra tests. I don’t think being on the 94th is that unusual particularly if all the results are in proportion. Just looked at the growth charts and that predicts a 9,9 baby (4.5kg) if it stays the same which although big (😳) is not dangerous.
Worth mentioning to your midwife anyway at your next appointment to see if she is concerned.
