Doctors Note - Advice

Last week I called the doctors and they told me to get to A&E for suspected PE at 26 weeks pregnant, so I went on Saturday. Anyway, after 13 hours in hospital I was discharged no heart problems or PE and so I decided to sign myself off for the week as the pain was horrific and took my breath away with any movement.

With a shit load of pillows at night I’ve actually managed to get a few hours sleep and the only thing that’s helped the pain in actually resting and not moving a lot. Im knackered - the discharge note has been sent to my doctor so is it okay if I phone in the morning and ask for a Fit note and will they give one over the phone given the fact I’ve been seen at hospital to rule out anything dangerous?

You don't need a doctors note until you've been absent from work for more than a week.
Also the hospital have not found any diagnosis so a doctor would probably want to review you before issuing a fit note

I signed off on Saturday and doctors aren’t open on a weekend. That’s why I wanted to ask about it tomorrow (Thursday) and for it to start from Saturday. It was my doctors that recommended I go to A&E on the discharge letter to my doctors it just says “Pleuritic in nature, pain that gets worse with movement” that’s it. They go on to say “safety netting to patient” meaning they’ve spoken to me - they said to me they thought it was muscularskeletal pain so that’s all I can tell my GP. I think it’s abit unnecessary to go in when I’ve been told what it is, if I have to I will but it would be easier over the phone after this weekends commotion.

Yes I think that is a reasonable request

Im allowed to legally be off work without a note for 7 days which takes me to Friday, next shift is Saturday so I need it sorting tomorrow really.

Yes they can do it over the phone, email you it, pick it up etc.

My GP gave me a fit note over the phone if that’s what you’re asking. They’ve just written pregnancy related symptoms on it

I’ve had a Med3 note before sent via Text! I’m just thinking with me being pregnant are they more cautious or will they go off the hospital discharge note?

That’s good to know, me personally I think it’s caused by pregnancy I haven’t done anything to aggravate my muscles! Pregnancy related pain is ideally what I want on it

Easy peasy, the receptionist just noted down what happened last week and got the doc to sign me off until 27th. Hopefully I’ll be right by then, massive improvement since the weekend but rather be safe than sorry!
