I couldn't find a new thread open as the old is now full.

Got a few of the usernames to tag, definitely missed people but hopefully they find the thread :)

Has anyone else's sickness made a return? I'm 30+4 and have spent every morning this week vomiting 🤢 brought me right back to the horrors of the 1st trimester and added to the rib pain and mid back spasms I'm just so miserable

Crazybrowncow · 31/08/2023 21:45

@GreenAventurinee I've joined the club today unfortunately. I have a 3hr appointment tomorrow to discuss diet, the blood tracking app and nexts steps. It is a blow, but for me it is most likely the reason for the increased amniotic fluid, so in some ways a relief to know.

I have had nausea this week (29+1) but (sorry for TMI) @Chellooo I've been so constipated I thought it might be that! Feel for you vomiting again, that's rough.

I saw in the news they are bringing forward the covid booster programme to end of Sept and pregnant women will be on the list. Hope everyone's doing ok.

LilmissCa · 31/08/2023 21:59

@Chellooo I've had some nausea.. mainly smell related but no vomiting.. yet! Being sick with an actual bump is the worst. I hope it passes soon for you

@Crazybrowncow with you and the constipation too. Been trying flax seeds in my porridge to see if that helps. Seems to a bit.
I just had my 2nd GTT today, first was 9wks & ok. Feeling for you & @GreenAventurinee big change for yous. There is so many insta pages I've seen that provide advice & good food options.

GreenAventurinee · 31/08/2023 22:18

My sense of smell seems to be heightened this week and it’s making me feel a little sicky too. (28+6)

Sorry to hear you’ve been diagnosed too @Crazybrowncow . I’ve been Googling like crazy, and I posted a thread on here. Tbh, all the experiences on here basically said the diet is a faff, but other than that everything was quite straight forward.
My appointment isn’t until Tuesday.

Had my whooping cough vaccine today. It’s all go isn’t it!

Spareincoming · 31/08/2023 22:35

@Crazybrowncow and @GreenAventurinee have you joined the gestational diabetes group on Facebook? It’s really useful and full of advice on pairing and what you can try.
I’m a silent member but it’s been useful over the last 6 weeks for me. I’m just approaching the danger zone - 32 to 36 weeks and dreading it, I’m diet controlled for now but have a feeling I’ll be medicated soon.

Thack · 31/08/2023 22:46

Curious - what prompted those of you who have been tested for GD to be tested?
I have one parent who is type 2 and I've had conflicting comments about getting tested it not.

LeeanneD11 · 31/08/2023 22:55

When does everyone recommend getting a 4D scan? I've got a scan at 32 weeks but don't think I can wait that long even tho it's not lol

Also is anyone feeling deflated? I'm feeling so low at the moment due to my bump size and nothing fitting me now , could I be massive due to my placenta being in front m? Or is it all baby , I have midwife next week so she will measure my bump . But I look in the mirror and think wow I'm massive for 27 weeks , 28 weeks Monday , I wasn't this big in my last 2 pregnancies and compared them all . Hope everyone is well xx

Bonsaitoodry · 31/08/2023 22:56

Thanks folks - will look out for a letter in September and if nothing comes, enquire! The clinic that does whooping cough vaccine near me isn't doing flu or covid either!

@GreenAventurinee - sorry to hear, but definitely don't beat yourself up. It is really common and I understand usually managed fine through diet, hope it all goes ok. I have my GTT on Sun - my trust does it routinely for all "geriatric" mums like me!

Psqueak87 · 31/08/2023 22:57

@Spareincoming that sounds truly terrifying! How’s your nose doing today?

@Thack in Canada every woman gets GD tested, whether high risk or not. Since doing it I’ve heard of some women turning it down due to the sugary drink you have to consume, and not wanting to give that to their baby. But my baby is living on chocolate and sour sweets anyway so I just did it!

BabyBabyBaby123 · 31/08/2023 23:13

I’m back at work tomorrow, I have 8 weeks left til I plan on starting my maternity leave.
I’m not sure if I’ll make it the full 8 weeks, or if I’ll end up leaving earlier as I have a tough job and I am measuring big so I’m unsure of how uncomfortable those last weeks in work would be.
When pregnant with DD2, I was already working from home at this point in my pregnancy due to covid, so I haven’t experienced working through the 3rd trimester and I’m not looking forward to it.
I also feel like I still have so much to sort before baby gets here and I’m not sure how I’ll have the energy around work, a 20 month old and a 12 year old!

LilmissCa · 31/08/2023 23:24

@Thack my dad has type 2 diabetes which promoted me to get tested in all 3 pregnancies at he 28wk mark.
I also got tested at 9 wks cuz my blood sugar level was just above their border during this pregnancy.

Spareincoming · 01/09/2023 00:10

@thack if there’s diabetes in the family the recommendation is you’re tested.

@Psqueak87 Sore! But no swelling so I’m fine. Honestly when I’m done with my career/this type of educational setting/no longer bound by national secrets I’m going to write a book as half the things I see or get caught up in at work are actually quite funny! Post event and on reflection with colleagues, what went on yesterday was almost slapstick at times. Got to laugh or it’ll destroy you!

Thack · 01/09/2023 05:01

Thanks ladies. I might double check at my next appointment.

@LeeanneD11 my bump is much bigger this time around. I think it's expected each pregnancy as your abdo stretches each time. I'm also a different shape where baby is sitting differently. DC1 went feet up really early, this one hasn't been near my ribs yet! Opposite sex to first, everyone says that's why.

@BabyBabyBaby123 are you able to hybrid work for third trimester? I did over covid, I remember needing the chance to lie down (nowhere suitable in work, so that's a good argument!). Don't forget ML is triggered after 36w with a pregnancy related sick day, I'll be using that if I need to!

WriMum22 · 01/09/2023 06:28

@LeeanneD11 feeling you on this, I had a little cry to my husband the other day because I just felt fat and frumpy. I’m normally a size 12/14 and prior to pregnancy did put a little weight on that put me more towards a size 14 and although the difference wasn’t massive, I did struggle with the thought I’d gained. Now I’m pregnant and clearly a lot bigger than I used to be, I just feel like a whale. Nothing fits me at all and so dressing in a morning is just a cry fest, I feel awful every day with no confidence. My last pregnancy I hardly showed and carried it so much better, this one it’s just all front and in reality I know I’m not actually huge, but mentally it’s just hard to deal with. Also doesn’t help that everyone at work is on this health kick diet, weighing themselves in the office every Friday losing weight and going to the gym together three times a week and I’m there gaining weight, struggling to move because I’ve got SPD 😂

but, baby is happy and healthy and that’s really all that matters to me… roll on the January health kick (get Christmas food out the way first 😂)

Travellingislife · 01/09/2023 06:39

Hi everyone,
Sorry to hear about some
of you having been diagnosed with gd. Did you have symptoms and that triggered you to get tested?
My midwife hasn’t said anything about me getting tested and I wasn’t with my son either but maybe it can go undiagnosed??

About buggies- I have a Bugaboo Cameleon 3 that I used with my DS, it’s also compatible with the Maxicosi carseat which is handy.
I like it but my DS never wanted to lie down flat so I ended up carrying him in my Ergo baby carrier everywhere, I love it! Definitely get one if you are thinking about carrying the baby. I walk my dog on trails so a buggy isn’t suitable for when they’re very young anyway.
When my son was older I used ( still use) a Thule glide for running and trail walking. I love that one too and so does he.
For travelling/ walking around town I use a Babyjogger city tour, it’s light and easy to fold, I take it as hand luggage on flights as if you check it in at the gate you have to wait until last to retrieve it at your destination and if you’ve got a connecting flight it might be tight on time.

I’m soon 31 weeks and currently at the airport to go on a short break- without my DS, I feel good and I can’t wait to relax without having a toddler to run around after 😅

Hope everyone is doing ok! I can’t believe we’re in the third trimester already 😊

Mldn · 01/09/2023 06:49

Have a safe flight @Travellingislife - I flew to Greece yesterday & it was absolutely fine! I’ve also just managed almost 12 hours sleep 😅 I have been so exhausted & sleep deprived at home so that was wonderful!! (There was still a fair few trips to the loo during the night!)

@LeeanneD11 i has a 4D scan, with anterior placenta, at 28 weeks but baby wasn’t playing ball. So we were rescanned at 29+3 and this was his image 💙 chubby cheeks & squishy pout!

I feel huge also.. midwife measured baby on Wednesday when I was 31 weeks & she said he’s had a growth spurt and is now tracking 33 weeks but she isn’t concerned, so nor am I!

BabyBabyBaby123 · 01/09/2023 07:16

@Thack unfortunately not, I’m a teacher so someone needs to be in front of my class until I start my leave.

I said that to my husband yesterday, if I make it to half term, I’ll be 37+3 and then have a week where I’m off so my maternity leave would actually start at 38+5, but DD2 had already made her arrival by then. So starting my leave at 36 weeks doesn’t seem so bad if I have to resort to it.

It’s the school run and the working day that I think is ultimately going to end me, but I’ll see how I get on.

I am still dreading today, @WriMum22 I know exactly how you’re feeling!

GreenAventurinee · 01/09/2023 07:34

I’m not sure why I was tested for GD. I had high blood pressure last going off in my first pregnancy so maybe that’s it.
The doctor told me yesterday that all pregnant women are tested for it, but this isn’t true because my sister wasn’t.

My bump is measuring small apparently but I have moments where I feel huge 🤣

@Spareincoming ive had a look at that page on facebook and I feel it’s going to be useful!

Shaker21 · 01/09/2023 08:08

I randomly had one lot of sickness Tuesday night and some nausea in the afternoon of Tuesday and Wednesday so really hoping the sickness stays away because going back to the 1st trimester all over again is not what I want right now!

I have a 4D scan booked for tomorrow at 28+1 weeks which I am so excited for :)

I spoke to my midwife at my 25 week appointment about when I would have the GD testing and she said that our trust don't do that anymore, it was only something they did during covid and have since stopped but they are looking at trying to bring it back. Only way we get checked is through blood test at 28 weeks which I have on Monday and the regular wee dip tests they do at the appointments.

The rib pain I have had has been really quite painful at times under my right boob, I had seen the other day that it can be a sign of pre-eclampsia so going to get blood pressure checked over the weekend and wee dip test on Monday with midwife which hopefully will all come back ok. Anyone else heard of this or any experience with it?

I have also got my anti-D injection tomorrow morning.

Sorry to hear about the GD for some people.

Can anyone recommend anywhere that sells maternity trousers in a short leg/petite range? I didn't want to buy anything more at 31 weeks but with the change in weather I don't think I'll get away with summer dresses for much longer! I'm 5ft for reference

Psqueak87 · 01/09/2023 15:52

@Travellingislife I’m doing basically what you said, I’ve bought the ergo baby carrier for the first few months (no point having a buggy for winter in Canada) and I’m buying the thule stroller for spring so that I can take bèbè on the trails with my dogs!
I see you have a different one for the city / travelling. Would this still be possible with the Thule? I was hoping to only buy one as my house just has no room for multiples.
im planning on flying home to the UK in summer next year, and I’ve no idea how that works, does the average person check in a stroller and wear the baby?

@Shaker21 I’ve been having some pretty u comfortable rib pain on the front and back, right hand side too. My BP has been low all pregnancy. My OB checked it a couple of days ago as standard at my apt and it was low end normal. So hopefully yours will
be fine ☺️

Travellingislife · 01/09/2023 18:08

@Mldn oh Greece sounds lovely! Hope you’ll have a fab time!

@Psqueak87 I personally find the Thule too big to take travelling, you can’t take it as handluggage, but you can always check it in, just make sure it’s got a protective bag. I did use the ergo carrier on the plane/ airport and found it really useful. On many trips I just took the carrier and didn’t bother about a buggy.
I also find the Thule quite big to take around shops but it’s definitely doable, I struggled to fit it in my car( a mini clubman so it’s not the biggest car) because of the size of the wheels.

Psqueak87 · 01/09/2023 18:27

@Travellingislife ok cool thanks for that. I do drive an SUV so hopefully should fit it in but I suppose we will cross that bridge when we come to it. Deffo set on the Thule though as it seems like the best option for me.

did you do any long haul flights with a baby? Planning on flying home in September next year which would be a 9-11 hour flight with a 10 month old.

Travellingislife · 01/09/2023 18:40

@Psqueak87 ah then you’ll definitely be fine for space!
I’ve done long haul and it’s definitely easier the younger they are 😅 I travelled for the first time when my son was 7 weeks and that was definitely the easiest one. It did get easier when he became interested in screens though. I recommend a night flight for sure as well as snacks and different toys. Lots of play and movement before getting on the flight too!
I try to time flights so he can have dinner and stay awake for an hour or two before going to sleep for the night.

Psqueak87 · 01/09/2023 19:13

@Travellingislife thank youuu!! We are pretty limited when it comes to flight times, but thankfully they’re usually late evening arriving early morning flights. My mum keeps asking me what she needs to source for our visit but I’ve no idea, I told her to look for a car seat and maybe a cheap cot.
