Soooo I'm 36 weeks plus 1...had a growth scan today and all seems fine with the baby etc - baby head is down but not engaged. However I keep getting stomach cramps and 2 times this week I've had (sorry TMI) diarrhoea for 3-4 hours at night. I'm fine all day, I eat normally and no issues with stools - but over night I get woken up by needed to go...why?? 🤣 this is my 3rd child but this pregnancy has been so different in many ways!! So I find myself asking what's happening - any help welcome x

Loose stools at the end of pregnancy are often due to hormones and can be a sign that your body is getting ready for labour

I didn't have that with either of my other 2!! How soon do we think?

Impossible to say, could still be a week or more. It’s a common symptom before labour

Let's hope it's not 4 weeks 🤣

@Gdb15 they now say it’s best for baby to stay in until at least 39 weeks as it’s best for lunch development etc. so hopefully yours stays out until then. I had loose stools and lost bit of the mucus plug for just over a week before baby made an appearance. It could just be due to a virus or baby upsetting your digestive system though

38-39 weeks will be fine by me! I can't deal with the thought of 40 + I have had so many things to overcome in this pregnancy - safe and sound would be best of course. My first born was 38+6 and second born 41+ 1!

I’ve had on off loose stools since 36 weeks. I’m now 38+2 and no signs of labour (luckily as I want to last until my planned c section at 39+2)

Pumpkinlady · 14/08/2023 21:22

I'm 37 weeks today and have had quite my fair share of diarrhea in the 3rd trimester, yuck! But weirdly last week at exactly the same gestation as you, I had 2 normal days (loose but normalish stools) and 2 nights where I was hit with horrible cramps and bad diarrhea!! I assume it's a mixture of hormones and also there's just no room for anything except baby in there right now 😅

Oh how strange it was the same time, I've just come Upto bed and has another episode sorry I know that's way too much over sharing but last night I was up 2am - 5am with it and if I have to do that again tonight I'll be a wreck lol

@Gdb15 I didn't have it in my first pregnancy either but did with second , and I'm now currently pregnant with my third child , I'm not sure if my little one was head down or not I went to midwife and then it all happened all of a sudden for me , I'm glad it was a c section in the end as I lost so much blood due to my placenta , hopefully this is labour nearing for you xx

Strange isn't it! All 3 of my pregnancies have been different but this one has been most troublesome of all lol - not long indeed but wish I knew when as I'm getting really tired of it all and just want bubba here safe and sound x

I’m 35+5 and I’ve got loose stools too!! Which is super strange for me as I suffer from chronic constipation. I sometimes go for a wee in the night and am left with period like cramps. Really hoping for baby to get to 38-39 weeks though, but not a day over 🤣

Well I'm now 36 + 3 with 25 days to go.....lol and still very pregnant...must just be a change in hormones etc x

Take care. I had loose stools and abdominal cramps from around 37/40, which both I and the healthcare staff attributed to the end of pregnancy (in fairness it became very severe and had me up night after night). Actually I had a bacterial gut infection (like food poisoning) which I couldn't clear (normally the sort of thing that clears without antibiotics) because the immune system is compromised in pregnancy. It made me really unwell around the time of the birth and following the birth and could have been treated easily at any time. I never had any fever and symptoms essentially stayed the same for weeks, which I think gave false reassurance. Hopefully in your case it is just the end of pregnancy but I would request a stool culture from your midwife just in case.

Oh wow bless your heart that's not nice - it has now stopped thankfully! So I guess it could of been the hormone change or just end of pregnancy! Now 36+3 and feeling like labour isn't very near as I thought the other night! So hopefully I'll get to 38/39 weeks but not too much after lol
