Hi all, lm due to have an abortion next week (I'm 8 weeks) just looking for some advice. I already have a 1 year old and honestly I look as pregnant as I did at 5 months with him which is a nightmare as only my partner knows about it. Once iv had the abortion will I just go back to normal? And how long did you bleed for? Wondering how much time I need off work.
TIA

Hey
firstly I’m sorry to here you are having to have an abortion. I have had one before and it wasn’t a decision taken lightly. But it was necessary.
your bloating will prob go down within a week or so. Are you having a d&c? Because after you can feel lightly swollen for a day or two. The bleeding is normally like a heavy period after and can last for a while or maybe not. It’s really depends.
a I would suggest at least a day or two off work if you able.

You need to post this under 'Pregnancy Choices'

I had an abortion at 18 weeks because my baby was fatally ill, and had all the same questions. I was a lot further on than you, though, so my advice not be the same. I had a D&C over 2 days. I was unable to work my desk job for about a week. I'd expect this is probably shorter in early pregnancy but don't know. I could do things like look after my toddler but needed a ton of rest. It took 2 weeks before I felt physically well again.

Bleeding was just not that disruptive to life so I don't remember, but would be different if you did the other kind of abortion.where you force miscarry.

Then yes, you just go back to normal. I'd expect it to be relatively quick, like you notice a big difference.in a couple days, then more slowly for a couple weeks. I wasn't totally back to my old self for 2 months but again, I was way further along and the pregnancy itself was doing weird things to my body due to the baby's condition.

Plan a week off and to take it pretty easy the following week. I wish you the best. It is v unpleasant but sometimes it is the right decision.

Hi all, looking for some advice on medical abortion i have a call booked for tomorrow and starting to stock up before pill’s arrival. Any suggestions on what kind of pads are best pls? Will the incontinence pads work? Worried about bleeding as i have to get out for nursery runs. Hoping to find suggestions on pads to use. Will the normal period pads work?

Hey
it will depend on how far along you are. Iv had miscarriages at different gestations and I found that the earlier you are the less bleeding and tissue.
if your pretty early then normal heavy flow pads will be ok.
if your later then you could get the after birth pads which are basically like a small mattress in your trousers. Apart from when your doing nursery run, I’d say you will probably spend most of the time on the toilet anyway for the heavy parts
good luck hope all goes ok x

Thank you for your response. I am around 6 weeks now. Just took the first tablet. Were your periods back to normal after the abortion? How long the bleeding lasts after taking the second pill? I know it’s different for everyone but couldn’t stop asking. I have been thinking too much about it
