Is it a weird name?

Hi All

We had settled on the name Theodora for our girl due soon, and mainly to use the nickname Teddie as we both absolutely love it. Over time, I’ve gone off the name Theodora as it’s a bit of a mouthful to say and doesn’t really roll off the tongue, could we just call her Teddie or is this a bad idea? I’ve definitely seen more ‘out there’ names recently and I don’t think this is up there with any of those.

The other names we had on our list were old fashioned : Ada, Hazel, Violet etc

Theodora is lovely, means gift of god. Teddie means, well, stuffed toy. Or uncomfortable underwear!

Consider Jonathon Ross's children who were given cutesy names as infants and are now adults who really are not suiting their names of Honey Kinny and Betty Kitten.

Teddie is a lovely nickname but can you imagine it being on a form for an interview for a professional role?

My DDs middle name is Theodora. Meaning God given (she was a bit of a surprise!)...
Love the name, I did want as a first name and also wanted NN Teddie. As others have suggested, loads of NNs and a beautiful name!

My little girl is 3 is there are 3 Theodora's in her class at nursery. They all go by Thea

Plus everyone saying Teddy doesn’t sound professional or female has clearly never watched Grey’s Anatomy- there’s a full cardio thoracic female surgeon on there called Teddy Altman! (Full name Theodora too haha).

I wouldn’t put too much pressure on yourself. I have heard some incredible names over the last 10 years, I’m sure by the time she grows up the name Teddy won’t even be on the “weird” list haha xx
