Membrane sweep

A week overdue and had a membrane sweep this morning.
The midwife has split my perinium slightly, similar to a one degree tear. It’s been bleeding since.
I’m now terrified of a bad tear during labour as I had a 4th degree tear with my DS.
Is this a common thing to happen during a s&s?
She was very rough so I don’t know whether it was normal or not as I didn’t have one with my previous pregnancy to compare with. I was in agony the entire time.
Just wanted to see if this is something other ladies have happened to them and if I’m now at risk of infection or anything? Should I contact someone?

I have had 2 sweeps and although both quite uncomfortable definitely no tears. I think I would contact your midwife to let them know as this does sound unusual.
Good luck for your birth and upcoming baby.

No not normal at all. Absolutely poor practice to injure you. I would report.

I'd report that as there is no way she should have applied enough force to have caused any damage to you. It's unfair you should have to deal with the pain and healing of that and now the potential worry of further tearing as well as infection. It's physical abuse to be hurting you like that and is absolutely not ok. You need to contact the PALS team for your hospital and also the Head of Midwifery.

Thank you, I’ll see if I can contact my actual midwife for a check up (saw a fill in midwife today) feeling very sore and it stings when I pee as if I’ve already given birth. The sweep hadn’t done anything so it wasn’t even worth it unfortunately.

Please report the midwife that did it though through the proper channels. If you weren’t pregnant would you have allowed someone to hurt you like that? No. And so just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean she should get away with that. She has physically abused you and that is illegal and 100% not care. And make sure it’s in your notes and if it’s obvious from the outside take photos too. If you need a consultation on this please contact Emma Ashworth Birth Rights Link to her Instagram
