Called back for 12 week rescan

I wonder if anyone has had the same experience.

I had my 12 week appointment and scan last Thursday (I'm in ireland, they do both at the same appointment) By my dates I should have been around 11 + 2.

The sonographer dated me at 11 + 5. She then said I need to come back in 2 weeks for rescan as she can't get a proper view of cranium. I asked if this was normal and she said I'm a bit early and sometimes ossification hasn't happened yet so I need to come back. Spoke to midwife after who said this was common.

I left appointment feeling ok but then started to worry about this rescan and if it really is a normal thing to be recalled for? Obviously gone down lots of rabbit holes since but can't find anything similar online.

I've already had NIPT and was low risk. This is second pregnancy. 1st one was so straight forward in comparison!

Has anyone else has experienced something similar and if so what was the outcome?

Thanks

I had to have a rescan with all of my pregnancies. Very very normal. Are you a bit overweight or carry your weight around your stomach? That can make it harder for the sonograoher to view everything.

A bit overweight but i dont really carry it around my stomach. I actually had 3 scans before 12 week one and nothing was mentioned but I suppose they wouldn't have been looking in as much detail.
Glad to hear it's normal though. I hope your rescans gave you reassurance.

Hi, in N.ire. I had my scan when I was 11w 2. It was hard to get accurate measurements of baby due to position and they asked me to come back after 12 weeks. Its just to get all the correct measurements so they can tick it off and date you properly. Don't worry. Very normal xxx

Yes that happened to me (also in Ireland). I was called in at around 11 weeks due to being high risk and they did a scan but said they'd like to do another one at 13/14 weeks.

I had an early scan at just after 11.5 weeks and then my 12 week scan at 12 and a half weeks and the difference in the shape of head etc was massive. I have no medical knowledge but looking at the pictures you can see why if they needed a scan that looked like after 12 weeks the one marginally before wouldn't do, if that makes sense? Good luck.

Thanks for all your responses. It's definitely reassuring. I'll let you know how I get on next week!
