Sharp pain on right side 11 weeks pregnant - hematoma, round ligament or something more sinister?

Looking for some experience/advice!

I stood up early and had a very sharp pain on my right side, low down (maybe more like close to my ovaries) - I wouldn’t call it period cramping, it was like a pressure pain that was sharp and hurt to move. I had been sat up right in bed for about an hour and a half before and did feel like when I moved a slight pain radiating up to my upper back/ribs beforehand. I’m taking progesterone pessaries due to being told I have a subchoronic hematoma & previously had a miscarriage - I’ve noticed they have made me constipated and I went to the toilet and clearly had been (sorry tmi) but pain still continued after that so I don’t think it’s that.

I had a similar pain on the 3 occasions I have had a bleed from my hematoma but every time this has been on my left side so wasn’t sure if is that and also haven’t had a bleed (touchwood) but I wonder if it’s bled internally & not come out (I believe the progesterone helps with the bleeding?) I’ve looked up about round ligament pain which it sounds similar to in terms of pain and location, but the difference is everywhere it says round ligament lasts a few seconds but this was more than that. I have taken two paracetamol & seems to have subsided mostly apart from when I walk it still feels a bit of pressure, heaviness & pulling but again not cramps I would compare to period. When I had a wee it felt like it had radiated a bit to the bottom half of my stomach, which again is what happened in my hematoma bleeds but this time I haven’t had a bleed.

I’m worried as I am 11 weeks 6 days and have my 12 week scan on Wednesday and now I am so anxious something is wrong. Last time I had a missed miscarriage but I guess I’m worried this is the start of one.

Anyone had any similar experiences? Currently in bed in tears with anxiety on this :(

I'm not a medical professional but that sounds like the round ligament pain I had in early pregnancy. If I moved suddenly it would be a sharp stabbing pain in ovary area. From memory I mainly got it in the right hand side.
I'm 40 weeks now and waiting the imminent arrival of my LO - so hopefully that puts your mind at rest a bit.

Call EPU if you're concerned (I think they say call if you have pain/cramping that doesn't go away) but I'm not sure why the haematoma would cause pain/cramp. It's just a pool of old blood.

@LBF2020 Thank you for your message - that’s reassuring! Do you remember how long yours lasted? Everything online says they last a few seconds but mine was more like 15/20 minutes fairly bad pain and went after a while and now when I get up there feels like a bit of a pulling sensation? This is my first right hand side pain, I occasionally get a mild dull ache on my left side but first on the right!

@Whataretheodds I called my EPU twice when I had my last bleed & they wouldn’t see me unless my bleeding became period like or my pain became worse than a period and continued.
The pain has now gone (touch wood) but when I walk feels a bit like pressure.
I’ve had pain with every one of my hematoma bleeds & then it subsided once I have bled. One time it was excruciating & I went for a scan and everything was fine. Not sure why I get that, but it does say online that cramping can be expected & the EPU said it’s normal

My round ligament pain never lasted a few seconds. But if you are concerned then get checked out

Whataretheodds · 06/08/2023 11:42

Oh that's interesting. I know cramping is a common symptom but I've had 2 sch and wasn't aware that cramping was associated with them once they have formed.

EllieJade95 · 06/08/2023 11:55

@romdowa Oh really! Would you say yours lasted around the same time as me? The pain has subsided but it still feels a bit sensitive

@Whataretheodds Online it says you may have pain or cramping but doesn’t really delve into too much detail & I think most people won’t. I did a post before and someone commented saying they were doubled over in pain, which went away once they had the bleed. That’s why I wondered if this was the same, however I wouldn’t expect it to be right side and I didn’t bleed. I felt better as it was the longest I hadn’t bled since I found out I had one but now this!

I’m now having pain when I wee and when I stand up I can’t walk properly as I feel heavy and a stitch like feeling/pain… I don’t have the stabbing pain in the right side anymore and it’s definitely not cramps pain - this is exactly what I had after I had a heavy bleed from my hematoma but I’ve had no bleeding! I don’t understand this 🥹
