Early scan, twins?

Hello mummies,

So I'm pregnant after 2 back to back miscarriages (yaaaaaay!)
I had a scan at 5w 2d due to a bleed. It was the consultant who did the scan with a portable scanner machine. She said she can see something in the sac and said the sac looked "busy and full"? She booked me I'm again a week later to see what was going on as she felt she could also see a line through the sac which could imply twins in the one sac. So fast forward a week, I had a scan with a sonographer. She didn't ask why I was there( I.e possible twins) and she found a baby with a flicker (fab!) Measuring 6w 4d. She didn't look around just said its fine and when I mentioned twins she said it's too early to tell? I'm now confused and examining my scan photos!

I do have a private scan booked for tomorrow, which I already had booked before the bleeding but curious to hear from others.

I'm just wondering what others see in my scan pics and is it similar to ur identical twin scans at 5w and 6w? I'd love to see your early ID twin scans too if you don't mind sharing.

😊 iv attached 5w scan and 6w scan.

I was told by the sonographer that sometimes it’s not clear there are twins until the 12 week scan. It could just be that in the second scan, the sonographer didn’t get the same angle as the first because at this stage they are so tiny. Can you push your private scan back a few weeks? It will be more clear then…

Second one looks like my 7 week singleton pregnancy scans x

I work in obstetric sonography OP. The consultant is talking bollocks I'm afraid. At 5 weeks it's far far to early to see much of anything. 'Busy and full' is not a medical diagnosis and she was wrong to tell you these things. What was this consultants speciality?

From your pictures, it does look like a single embryonic sack, yolk sac and fetal pole, in the second image. Neither image indicates twins in anyway. By 6 weeks you'd expect some definition between the two embryos if everything is developing correctly. Your sonographer should have checked the whole sac very thoroughly, and if there was more than one heartbeat, usually they will have picked that up at the same time.

Be wary of private scans. It's not a regulated industry, anyone can purchase a machine and open a private ultrasound company. And sadly, we have seen countless times pregnant women have been told one thing when it's the other, and given false hope or devastating news incorrectly.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

This is when I was 8wks with my ID twins, very clearly two embryos in the shot. I’m 31wks now!
yours to the very much untrained eye looks like a singleton to me. I’ll be honest an ID twin pregnancy comes with complications, we’ve been okay and majority are but there are risks associated which wouldn’t be the case with a singleton!
