I am currently 32 weeks pregnant and my DS is having chickenpox now, I don’t know if I had it before. Has anyone had similar experiences before and know what can be done and should this be a big concern.
I have contacted my MW and they said I might need a blood test.
Thank you x

Yes you need a blood test to check you have antibodies and if you don’t they will offer you a vaccination.

i had a similar situation: eldest child got chickenpox while I was pregnant (in my second trimester) and wasn’t clear if I had previously had chickenpox. I had the blood test, which confirmed I had had chickenpox in the past. Get the blood test and go from there!

Ask your mum? She'll know!

Ha! Mine didn’t. Get a blood test OP

It's very contagious. I got it from my child as I never had it when I was a child. Fortunately it was between pregnancies. I'd call your midwife and see what they recommend.

Same here, first person I asked was my mum and her answer was “I don’t know”

Tbh I think your mum would remember. Ask the midwife about antiviral which can lessen the symptoms if used early on.

People saying 'ask your mum' is not helpful at all! Don't you think that would of been already? Some folk can be so thoughtless.

It happened to SIL. She wasn’t given vaccination but some antiviral medication. Be very mindful and check if you see any spot appearing. The second you see one you need to be started kn medication

I had chickenpox in my second trimester. It was mild, I wasn’t given any medication, just waited it out.

Don’t worry too much OP - the risk of complications is small, just keep your midwife updated.

Thank you for sharing your experience. My result came my as I am not immune to it so chances of me getting it is quite high, MW had advised me to contact my GP for antiviral medication.

Ah I think I remember why I wasn’t given anything - I contacted them too late, when a spot had already appeared. The antivirals can’t reverse it.

Good luck and stay positive!

My entire second pregnancy was a string of Hyperemesis, chickenpox, Covid, gestational diabetes, and it all turned out fine.

Thank you, my MW has asked me to take some antiviral medication on the 7th day after my DS had symptoms so hopefully this will help
