First trimester struggles

I'm 7 weeks with my second and the symptoms are so much worse this time around. I'm so tired (probably partly because I'm running around after my one year old), but feeling so nauseous. I'm hungry constantly, like ravenous! I need to eat every 1-2 hours as the hunger makes me feel sick but then the food makes me feel sick. I'm struggling at work and for many reasons really do not want to tell them until later on but I know if I have time off sick they'll figure it out. Just struggling to cope a bit and only 7 weeks! Also think I'm going to end up the size of a whale as snacking so much throughout the day! How does everyone manage to hide it when struggling with symptoms? It wasn't this bad with my first.

Can you get yourself a massive bottle of flavoured water or squash to sip on when you're feeling peckish?
Or prepare loads of healthy snacks like carrot, cucumber, celery and pepper sticks?

I’m currently pregnant with second also & can totally relate to you. I didn’t want to tell work until scan as anything could be going on inside but this has floored me right from the off set. It’s been so much worse than the first one. I’ve given myself grace and just decided getting fit note from GP is the best option for me at present with HG. Constantly having to snack too & also sick of eating. GP has been kind enough to prescribe meds though so do see if you can get help through GP. Definately a struggle when you have a child / kids already too.

Hi @gentlemum you just described what i'm going through lol! Pregnant with second one too. I didn't feel like this with my first, nausea, hungry to the point i'm snacking while making my food and when i eat i then have nausea again. I lost a load of weight but it's back on again, just going to eat loads perks of being pregnant! Xx

Thanks @snoopy18 and @Summer2424 sorry you're both experiencing the same but nice to know I'm not alone. It's just a struggle to think of getting through the next few weeks. Totally different ballgame when you're pregnant with a child to look after!

I have just gone through exact the same, i am now 13 weeks pregnant and i honestly thought the first trimester was never going going to end! I have a 19month old and i found napping when she was napping a god send. I ended up telling people too just so they understood more why i wasn't really myself. Eat when you can eat and eat whatever you want too. I ate constantly. Everything will be okay, you can do this!!!

Hey, I found with my sickness/nausea being bad that eating small and often helped but chewing gum was amazing! And if your caffeine intake isn't already high, a glass of coke helped me too but of course be careful of your caffeine intake with that one x

The only thing that really helped me was booking random days holiday off work between 7-11 weeks. I'd go for a Wednesday or Thursday and keep my toddler at daycare and just rest. I found I was even more nauseous if I was tired and this was the only way to take a break.

gentlemum · 03/08/2023 22:01

@Lilmissmissy napping when toddler naps is a good idea! I always feel I should be doing the housework but probably a lot more important to rest at this point!

@Ttcmumma I didn't think of chewing gum, I'll try that! I don't have any caffeine but could try some coke, I've found fizzy drinks in general are quite good

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 yes I've also found it's worse when tired, and my toddler doesn't sleep well and even when he is sleeping I don't sleep well so always feeling tired. My mum looks after him on the days I'm at work and I don't think I could convince her to do so whilst I 'have a day to myself' as she would see it!

I feel this! I am 6 weeks, constipated, ravenous and then feel a bit sick after I've shoved the food in my mouth. I also have mild cramping - so things are going well 😩

gentlemum · 04/08/2023 21:41

@MovingMad87 yes the constipation too! 😩 I didn't have that with my first until much later on!
