Viability scan - 7+0 or later?

Hello everyone, when do you think is best to go for a viability scan (as early as possible but maximising chances of seeing the heartbeat)? 💓 is 7+0 a good bet?

I’ve already done one knowing it was too early for a heartbeat but to help me date the pregnancy as I don’t have regular cycles. I was between 5+0 and 5+2. Could see the gestational sac and yolk sac so looking positive for that stage; HCG progression is also fine and roughly doubling as it should. But now I don’t want to pay for another scan unless I can check the heartbeat 😊

From 6ish weeks onward there should be a heartbeat, definitely at 7 weeks

@eloisie When I was pregnant earlier this year, I had my first scan 6+6 and saw a strong heartbeat. I went back 2 weeks later to see how things were progressing and found out that the heart probably stopped at 8 weeks.
Going too early might give you false hope. I probably wouldn't go before mid 8 weeks as this is a critical point. I am pregnant again (6 weeks ish) and if I do an early scan again, I won't do it until 8 to 9 weeks.

I went at 6+5 and saw a clear heartbeat so I think 7 weeks should be absolutely fine 😊

6+6 for me and saw the heartbeat x

allgoodthings84 · 02/08/2023 15:54

I personally would wait until 9 weeks

eloisie · 02/08/2023 16:31

Thanks all! I will go at 7 weeks. Very sorry to hear about your experience @TTCbaby2023 . I am away for 3 weeks leaving on the evening of 7+0 and don’t want to wait. Appreciate heartbreak would be hard but I feel like I want to do it!

@eloisie Ive just booked one for 7 weeks. Although im worried incase it’s too early.. i just know i cant wait until 12 weeks. (Currently 4+3)

Mangotango39 · 02/08/2023 21:10

6+6 saw the heartbeat internally and little baby blob
9+4 heard the heartbeat externally and baby bouncing around

I think 7 weeks is fine but check the place does internal just incase.

I fully support early scans to be honest. Anything to ease the anxiety for a few days.
x

Thanks everyone for all the advice! I’ve confirmed it at 7+0. I am generally quite anxious but have decided that since all seems well and I have no reason to be worried (no spotting or pain other than the expected mild cramping) I will now patiently wait for the scan 🙂
