Orgasm bring on labour?

I know sex can, because of the semen but this is not an option for me, sex has been nothing but painful throughout pregnancy and I'm not quite sure why. But what about orgasms? Since they release oxytocin? Is it worth a try? Has anyone gone into labour after this? Im full term, get this baby out of me!!

Nipple stimulation as well

Anonymoususer456 · 01/08/2023 17:32

I’m gonna be a negative nelly, I tried everything and nothing worked for me personally, although nipple stimulation did start slight period cramping pains! Walking also helped me to dialate with babies head pressing against cervix.

I mean, if it works - great. If it doesn’t - at least you’ve had a bit of fun? 😆

Doesn't work in my experience (induction x2 at 7 days and 15 days overdue) but it made the endless wait more pleasant.

Yes, my waters broke a few hours after both sex and orgasm. Of course I don't know whether it helped bring on labour though!

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 01/08/2023 17:53

Didn’t work for my first but neither did the drip. Did work for my second though.
walking up and down hills and scrubbing floors is also supposed to help

Try a perineum massage

KnickerlessParsons · 01/08/2023 17:56

They say a spicy curry works too I have my doubts

FirstDayOfHoliyays · 01/08/2023 17:56

Do you know what works? Nothing. It's all a load of shite. Try what you want though

jadey1991 · 01/08/2023 18:11

Fresh pineapple and going up and down the stairs helped me

Pastaf0rbreakfast · 01/08/2023 18:31

We had decent sex with lots of foreplay at around 3pm and I was in labour less than 12 hours later. However, that day we also went for a long walk, had a spicy curry, watched a funny movie, I ate pineapple, and I bounced on the ball a lot. And I was 12 days overdue. So can’t say for sure what, if anything, worked.

I will say that I am glad we had an enjoyable day together though, as that was 2 years ago and we rarely have a whole day to spend together now.

Hi @lndsoon i had sex through out my pregnancy and still baby was overdue. Try walking hun, alot! x

madeleine85 · 01/08/2023 18:42

I was high risk for early labour, and was told that this can trigger it. What DID work though is squats/exercise.

I agree with this.

Certainly orgasms are great anyway, I'd never say no to that, it's always a good idea.

But you can't control how your birth will go. It's sheer luck in my (dreadful) experience

TheDogHasCaughtAnotherBloodyFish · 01/08/2023 18:53

I don’t think anything helps to bring on labour in all honesty. My first baby was on time, my second was almost 2 weeks late. I was not expecting ting that!

Hope you don’t wait too long to meet your baby.

bravotango · 01/08/2023 19:05

I had an 'oxytocin day" the day before my due date - favourite meal,.cuddles with a friend's baby, few episodes of New Girl and...an orgasm (no sex). Went into labour an hour after going to bed - could just be chance but everything is worth a try!

Mischance · 01/08/2023 19:13

All my babies were 10 days overdue. When it got to my third I remembered that breast-feeding brought on uterine contractions, so I lay on the bed and shut my eyes and visualised the whole breast-feeding thing - baby crying, getting up, fetching baby, getting boob out, putting baby on, the let-down etc. - the whole thing minute by minute. My waters broke!!!

Worth a try!

PickledScrump · 01/08/2023 19:45

I don’t think anything triggers labour to happen immediately. But your body needs oxytocin to start labour and orgasms will release oxytocin, it may not start it immediately but it gets those important hormones flowing. Even if it doesn’t start contractions it may well start your cervix changing ready for labour to start so definitely worth a go.

@bravotango love this idea of an oxytocin day!!! Also love the fact that you had an orgasm and no sex at this late in the game. You go momma

Blowing balloons has been clinically proven to help. (Helped me by accident then saw the study!)
