5 weeks very low hcg, has anyone else had this and had successful pregnancy?

I had bloods done yesterday at 5 weeks and my hcg is very low at 98 😞 the GP has referred me to EPU and said to expect bad news. I am preparing myself for this, but want to know if anyone else has had something similar happen and everything turn out to be ok?

Hi @naggy095
Sorry that you’re going through this stress!

My HCG at 5 weeks according to my dates was 113 so similar to yours. 48 hours later they were 337 so had more that doubled but we’re on the lower end for my dates. I had some bleeding so the EPU scanned me at 6 weeks and they could see the sac, yolk and a tiny embryo but I only measured 5 weeks so a week behind what I should be.
They rescanned me 10 days later and there was a baby there with heartbeat which had grown 13 days.
I am currently 11 weeks 5 days pregnant. I had my NHS scan last week which showed a healthy baby although they booked me in based on my LMP so was only 11+1 and have to go back this week for the proper scan and screening tests. I’ve constantly worried about measuring behind/low HCG at the beginning and still do now but so far baby is perfect. Did you track ovulation so 10% sure of your dates?

Hope that makes sense and helps you. Good luck with the pregnancy ♥️

Hi OP.
You need two consecutive hCG readings before anyone can judge if your pregnancy is viable.

98 on its own isn't bad, though. It is within normal limits for your gestation.
I'm sorry you're having this worry and I hope your levels rise as they should and you get good news.
I've definitely known women with the same levels as you, and all was well.

naggy095 · 01/08/2023 15:14

@Ttcsecond thank you, that sounds so worrying for you and I'm glad it's working out ok so far 💕 your story gives me some hope. I'm 100% sure on ovulation, I tracked with OPKs and bbt, ovulated 9th or 19th July.

@TheShellBeach the GP said the EPU will do their own blood tests, I'm waiting for them to contact me but feels like forever 😞

That was meant to say 9th or 10th July 😅

Also I had 2-3 weeks on a CB digital last week but this week it's 1-2 so my hcg is going down

Ah. I was just trying to figure that out.

Honestly, I know how worrying it is, waiting for this appointment.
Let its know how you get on.

I've spoke to a lady on here before who only had hcg of 25 at around 5 weeks and she's now into the second trimester with a healthy pregnancy, so don't let that worry you! The digital changing to 1-2 weeks is concerning tho as it shouldn't be decreasing. Try not to panic until you have a second lot of bloods and it confirms if your hcg is increasing or decreasing x

naggy095 · 01/08/2023 16:58

@Ttcmumma that's exactly what I'm thinking, the fact it's decreasing 😞 the EPU didn't contact me today despite telling my GP they'd be calling me in the afternoon, so the GP has ordered for me to have another blood test for tomorrow. I don't have much hope but I'm glad it'll happen early instead of weeks later

So I had my scan, the sonographer said the endometrium wasn't very thick and that there was a very small sac there but not at the stage it should be. I'm waiting for the results of the hcg bloods I had this morning and then I need to call the EPU with the results, and then they'll go from there. But it's not looking good so I'm feeling very sad 😞

Oh honey. I'm so sorry. That's not the news you wanted.

naggy095 · 02/08/2023 18:04

@TheShellBeach thank you x

I've been getting bad cramping on and off all day, every day this week but I've had no bleeding at all. It's torturous having to wait for it to start 😞

Just to update this, I've started bleeding now. Glad I don't have to wait anymore but very upset. I hope I'm more lucky next time 🤞🏼

I know how you're feeling. It happened to me more than once and it's just awful. So sad.

Hi OP,

So sorry to hear about what you went through. I’m 4.5 w in with my first pregnancy and I also had my second beta coming back as 94 (from 65) so not great. The clinic wants to measure on Monday again but I think I already know where this is going. I’m just so scared of a ectopic! I was wondering if you could share anything from your experience that I should let my dr know? I’m just so worried x
