Amniotic fluid leaking or discharge / pee

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me!
I am on holiday / abroad for the next few weeks so not the best circumstances!

Yesterday evening I was lying down to put my kids to bed. When I got up I noticed the bed was slightly wet! I went to the bathroom to check and my undies were slighty wet too! At the back (I was lying on by back). It was completely watery..
I didn't notice any leaking since, but have been on the loo multiple times to check as I am a bit concerned!

Could it just be pee? (didn't feel it leaking at all) or watey discharge? Is that possible to be that much to get a duvet sheet wet? Sorry TMI but it is what it is..

I am on holiday and it's a sunday, I don't really know ehat to do..

How far gone are you? Is it too late to sniff it? Had you just been in the bath or pool?

Mimimi1029 · 30/07/2023 11:54

Sorry I forgot to mention I am only 18+0 weeks..
I smelled it, it definitely wasn't odourless but I couldn't really tell if it was pee or not. Slightly sweet smell (sorry I know it's gross) but then again it could have been pee I really don't know.

Try to go to your nearest healthcare facility to get checked out. They should be able to do a test to see if it's amniotic fluid or not. Normal discharge or slight leak of pee shouldn't be that much, and usually doesn't gush out after you've been lying down. Not to scare you but better to safe than sorry! Good luck!

Hi, I’m a midwife and I would absolutely recommend going to your nearest hospital with a maternity unit for a full assessment. Do you have your maternity notes with you? And do you speak the language of the country you’re in?

It may be nothing but you and baby need a proper assessment if you’re unsure if your waters have gone.

Really hope all is well for you :)

Mimimi1029 · 30/07/2023 12:03

Thank you. It didn't really gush when I got up, I think it just happened when I was lying there. I didn't feel it at all. I noticed it by accident when I put the blanket to the side there was a slightly wet area on the bed!
I am tempted to go to the nearest hospital but hesitant as I didn't have any "leaking" since!

Go. If it's nothing then that's a great outcome.

Mimimi1029 · 30/07/2023 12:06

Thank you, My maternity notes are all digital (badger app) although it's lacking a lot, the scan is not showing up only the blood test results.. I am in Istanbul, I don't speak turkush but might ne able to have a friend there to translate..
In your experience, if the waters brake that early, wouldn't it be leaking continuously or could it be just a one time thing like it happent to me?

Wouldn’t it be continuously leaking if it was waters? That’s why maternity hospitals tell you to put a pad on and check over a few hours to see if it’s still leaking?

rosetintedspectacles · 30/07/2023 12:09

Even if it’s not still gushing or tricking, I would put a pad in and head up to your nearest maternity unit. It may just be discharge, but if your waters have gone then you would need to be started on antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection for you and your baby, and have a thorough assessment. You’re not wasting anyone’s time if you go and it’s a false alarm!

Mimimi1029 · 30/07/2023 12:30

Oh now I am even more concerned!
It's sunday so I would have to go to hospital..
I also have 2 little kids..
Will ask hubby to find the nearest hospital..

How are you OP?

Hope all is ok OP.

Sorry totally forgot to update!

So I've been to a gynaecologist and had a scan, blood test, urin sample, and blood pressure check. Scan was totally fine, normal amount of amniotic fluid, baby looks fit and healthy so far, nice heartbeat.
Bloods results will be back tomorrow hopefully. Only my blood pressure was slightly high but still ok at 140/90. Was advised to monitor it and come back in 2 days for a follow up..

But one question.. she didn't have a look down there at all, so no swap or anything taken. I don't know how it's done in the UK but in Germany they routinely check the PH. Would it show in the scan and bloods if anything was wrong or only with a swap?

That’s not a blood pressure I’d be happy with IP. What is your normal, non pregnant BP?

Mimimi1029 · 01/08/2023 19:23

At my last midwife appointment it was 130/85 and my midwife said that was good. I know 140/90 is high, the gyn said the same hence monitoring. Anything under 140 is ok and anything higher needs investigation, so I need to keep an eye on it and will have a follow up
